RRS or FF Vogue

I know this seems daft asking why I should buy a RRS over a FF. I have a choice between an MY10 RRS HSE 3.0 or a MY 10 FFV 3.6 both diesels . I have driven both back to back, prefer the sport for regular driving, RRV for motorway work. Interior felt more special in the Vogue and mpg is better in Sport.

My question is, why would I get a sport over a FF? Has anyone gone from FF to RRS and why?!

Genuinely need another point of view.

Reliability, known issues, etc

For balance I put the same q on FFRR a while ago but no real views, just drive both...

Thanks in advance

hello milesg,
interesting dilemma, i had the same thing and im a Porsche Cayman manual driver.
I ended up with the RRS as a lot of my driving is aroundLondon and the extra size of the FFRR just seemed a bit much but from a luxury point of view Id say the FFRR has the edge.

Ive kept the Cayman and drive the RRS for longer journeys and use the Cayman S for short trips.

The comfort of the RRS is plenty enough compared to the basic rawness of the Porsche, which Im sure you would agree is a basic car from a luxury point of view.

What sort of journeys do you do most, town or Motorway, if its the latter, then perhaps the FFRR if its town then go for the Sport.

FWIW I get similar economy from both cars.

Hi Wilpert, thanks for your advice.

Love the Cayman S and if it wasn't for occasionally taking the kids in the back it would have been my choice. I have a 3.8S that I bought in Jan, the engine blew in Feb, £10k and 3 months to repair at Hartech.... Nightmare!! So it's gone, the wife's just bought a beetle convertible so I am back to 4x4's!

I drive mainly town, 6 miles a day most day then trips to clients across the region. So yesterday for instance I did 215 miles, today I did 6...! Parking is another issue but I didn't think the Vogue was that much bigger really, just not as tall?!

I think I have just answered my own question really haven't i.......

Any further opinion or advice?!

Thanks all.

MILESG

Whoaah milesg thats a bummer, Porsche paranoia comes true fro you then!

I had a 996 tiptronic cab which was in tip top condition and looked classic with the red interior and silver paint but I kept itching for a manual, I bought it at 40k and after three years crept up to 90k so sold it. the only jo i ever did was the lms bearing upgrade, which i could have left but hey ho!

My Caman S is Atlas grey and looks very nice, its a manual and guess what, the missus can't drive it. hates the gears and hates the smelly clutch Rolling Eyes
I put a gt exhaust from carnewal in belgium and it sounds great.

So...... I traded her old 192k Volvo Xc90 against my RR sport just a few weeks ago.
Ended up with loadsa worries at first as the previous, short term owner, faked up the service book and I thought Id bought a duff car, all sorts of paranoia set in until i found the owner before him and hes just linked me to all of the previous service people and I have 9 print outs of history and a bill for two new turbos just 10k miles ago, so hopefully all good now. it seems the last bloke must have lost the book and thought he would get some dodgy stamps but now I have to get a replacement book that i will get stamped by the people who carried out servicing.

If your used to the extra fizz that the Porsche gave then maybe go for a well specced RR sport, maybe get one with an HST kit, that what I did and I do like the look of it. Mines a TDV8 with high miles nearly 98k but it only cost me 13.5k plus a car that could only be worth 3.5k so lets say 17k overalll and it looks pretty decent.

Why not get a V8 and have it mapped, thats what I will be doing, I hear Dynachip is good.

FWIW and I may be shot down, I got rid of the bad boy 22" wheels that seemed to rumble like mad, and put on a set of RR 20" alloys which feel much smoother.

I guess your budget may be greater than mine (as i kept the Cayman S too) but if could have afforded it I would have got lower miles with a warranty.

Good luck with the dilemma.

I would likely go FF given that choice. I aspire to upgrading one day to a new FFRR. But... I'm more Vogue SE. Not sure what the difference is on 10MY cars. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso
RRS TDV6 HSE Lux (MY2011)... Nara Bronze / Arabica - now gone!

My personal view, buy a Sport. The FF is a great car, but no diesel is going to like doing 6 miles a day, EGR problems and seized turbos will happen.
The FF is great cross country car but always found the wrap around Sport felt like home rather than the open plan FF. I use mine mainly for towing, it does this well but it's no sports car, and owning a 996 GT2, I bet you would sell FF in weeks, where as you will keep your Sport for years 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈
Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱
Lots of other toys in the cupboard...😜

In my opinion I'd go full fat.

On the motorway I'd say there isn't that much difference in comfort but round town the sport isn't as comfy. Its a compromise as the sport goes round corners faster than the ff.

For me the sport is a little small, the drivers seat area is tight (depending on how big you are of course). The boot space is small as the boot lid tapers inwards where as the ff is more upright. The ff back seats can take two child's seat and still fit a person inbetween unlike the sport.

I came from a couple of t5.1 transporters so space was never an issue, I could have a full size dog cage in then put the pram in without folding it up and still have space. It lacked luxury, comfort and the sport is better for towing.

After all that I still love my tdv8 sport as it looks good!!

I'd go FFRR but I'd probably hold out for the 4.4TDV8 if I could. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

We had the ff vogue for 2 years ( td6 remapped), nice and comfy nice drive good on long journeys etc but i coudnt stand the handling it had when cornering, i wont list the faults because that can be any car.

Now to the sport s/c Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy , my word its a world apart from the ff, space inside is more than enough for our needs, 2 kids and the dog (even a small dog cage fits in the boot ok).

Mrs monty swore she would never own the sport model as she loved the ff, on our test drive she took the helm and gave it some stick( dad was into rallying) and she certainly put it through its paces and she is very fond of command shift Laughing and the handling is superb for a car this size.

running costs on cars like these i beleive is not worth debating at all, no car that weighs the thick end of of 3 tonne is going be good in the fuel consumption stakes.

Would we go back to a ffrr, in short no

tony

Hi Wilpert,

In short, yes. I think I am going FF as I have been offered a 2010 Vogue SE in black, ivory leather, usual toys, 55k, 2 years LR warranty for £27k thru an LR dealer. They are not holding well in the summer......

Found a RRs 3.0 HSE in black with black, 63k, TV, but no warranty for £25.5k negotiated. But the lack of warranty really gets to me after my 911 mare...!

Well done, that 911 really was a bad experience, Ive only had mine for a month and i cant help being a worry guts but tbh ive done a couple of K mixed driving and it drives really well. i was paranoid about vibration at higher speeds but ive had it looked at and they say its normal, just something that happens when the turbo kicks in.

If id have had more in the pot id have gone low mileage and i can see why you are wanting the warranty.
I was thinking of taking a warranty wise 3 year warranty out, but its around 2k for a decent level one and Im nervous they might wiggle if I have to claim. plus its had some of the usual foibles sorted, new turbos, front wishbones, electric handbrake etc. so fingers crossed!

I bought a platinum warranty wise warranty cheap from a car dealer friend for my Cayman S 3 years for 1300 quid ( was quoted 2300 if I bought it myself) but he did it as if i got the car from him and he gets dealer rates but I dont want to ask for the same with the rr sport.

what happened with the 911, did you sell it privately and was it a big hit?
I sold my 996 when the miles got high but it was too cheap on reflection and the market was bad at the time.

Im still tempted to go for a gen 2 Cayman, they are so good to drive but my missus struggles with the heavy clutch.

Loved my Cayman S, but developed the dreaded bore score within 2 months...warranty (platinum one) diddnt / wouldn't cover it..as they said the car prob had it when bought...dealer wouldnt accept that as he said he had had the car health checked before sale, health check people said they did all checks required by Porsche but this would not always show signs of bore score. was a nightmare and i ended up selling at a huge loss. Nobody would take responsibility, and the cost of dragging everyone through court would of crippled me. Loved the car..but left me feeling tainted Gone but not forgotten, 2005 RRS SC first edition, BMW 2010 Z4,TVR Tamora, TVR Cerb, MERC SL 55 AMG, E46 M3, Z4, Jag S type R, Skyline R33 GTR 640 bhp, Evo FQ 400, L322 RR, X5, Lotus Esprit V8 twin turbo, Lotus Elise 135r, Nissan Murano, Honda S2000, 911, Boxster s...and a few more
