Dealer with no landline?

I have been looking on auto trader etc. to buy my first RRS. There is one for sale through a dealer called Right Cars in Chesham, bucks that looks good for my price range etc. it's a TDV6 on an 05 plate with 60K on the clock. Not been to see it yet but it looks a nice car.
What would you guys check over the normal given that the dealer doesn't have anything other than a mobile umber?

In my price bracket they are few and far between! Price has dropped from over £15K to sub £14K. Next best option is a 2007 with 93K at £16K ! Check out Rightcars in Chesham or Autoroute in Teynham.

I know it's sound advice speedy and I am grateful for your input. I would love to get a LR approved one, but this seems a decent buy!? Anyone know this car?

Agree with speedy - your posts ringing so many alarm bells I've gone deaf - a dealer with a mobile and no landline is terrifying Shocked

These vehicles can be bought cheap but can end up costing mega money to fix - just look through some engine threads if you need convincing Confused

Only buy with fsh and proper warranty unless you've got £10k sitting in the bank for a rainy day Sad

Buy from a LR dealer with approved warranty or an owner who has lavished money and cared for it like it's a limb or you will be playing Russian roulette Exclamation Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Still hoping for a S2 one day!

New Zealand 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Rimini Red

We bought our RRS from Wales (Newport Gwent to be precise) from Ebay and we live in New Zealand so the whole process was via phone, email and google earth Smile There was one RRS perfect spec, right color etc but the "dealer" only had 3 cars listed and when I looked up their address on streetview it was a skanky looking lock-up beside a motorway, not a dealership.

Needless to say we didn't buy it!

I eventually bought from Brittania motors in Gwent, and while they were (understandably) cautious as well - and the process took several weeks not helped by the 12 hour timezone difference! - they were great and the container is a few days away from our port here in Wellington(NZ) - can't wait!!

Anyway, moral of the story is: if it seems to good to be true, or the "dealer" isn't upfront and transparent with you about the car or process, walk away. Every home should have one!

Your link to the car for sale, says the car is no longer available.

I bought mine in a private sale, because it was the 'right price and mileaage'

Just because it's not from a main dealer, does not mean it's a bad car.

You just have to be that little bit more cautious................. Take someone who knows about cars, check the service history......................... and a stamped service book isn't good enough. You need to see the service check list that come with the service (Or at least should).

Good luck on finding your car.

Frost - I can't believe you've bought a rrsport and shipped it without ever viewing or test driving it Shocked

This ia a link to the same vehicle, no saying at a different dealer and £500 more?
Dealer website is exactly the same style and colour as the previous one so makes me suspicious about what is going on?

Auto trader and the likes are full of scams - if it looks too good to be true it generally is Evil or Very Mad

This has now made it much harder for genuine sellers from experience Sad Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Simply phone him and ask to talk to him on his land line number. Some one man shows even though perfectly honest and respectable only use mobile numbers as they dont want to miss customers calls while away from the office. Gone but not forgotten, 2005 RRS SC first edition, BMW 2010 Z4,TVR Tamora, TVR Cerb, MERC SL 55 AMG, E46 M3, Z4, Jag S type R, Skyline R33 GTR 640 bhp, Evo FQ 400, L322 RR, X5, Lotus Esprit V8 twin turbo, Lotus Elise 135r, Nissan Murano, Honda S2000, 911, Boxster s...and a few more

yeah, bit of a gamble - and it got flagged for underbody corrosion at the border - which was to be expected but easily fixable here - and it has a full service history, HPI clear etc. But yes, bit of a gamble! I'll keep you all posted Smile

Never driven a Rangy, no test drive or report, just a lot of questions and research (which led me here initially) and pictures etc. So yeah, fingers cross a bit! Every home should have one!
