EPB issue

I've had this happen twice in 3 years. Parking brake activated while driving. Spooky enough on the same road.Anyone else had the same? So my question is do I buy a new module? Thanks.

The car vibrates and the rear brakes get very hot. The rear parking shoes are designed or so i've been told to just break up under these conditions and so dont cause a lock up.

Does it actually activate, or are the shoes seized, causing it to bind? Do you use the handbrake often, or does it not get used?

I would imagine if the EPB is coming on, the car would beep at you to tell you so.

Had exactly the same, it is not activating as you are going along, just not releasing properly. Or has been over tightened when new brakes put on - mine ate a set of shoes for no apparent reason after I bought it. The previous owner didn't use the EPB and I did, that exercised it then it got stuck and did exactly what you describe. If you get the vibrating you know there is an emergency release under the cup holders in the centre console which you pull to disconnect it?? Got me out of trouble when they bound up on a motorway. TDV8 Java Black, Overfinch 22s

Yes it was the same. no dash lights etc they just started to enaged while driving. My shoes were new ish the second time it happened. i do use the brake and so lack of use it isn't. When it did happen i didnt have to use the pull cable method as the switch still worked. I can hear them coming on or off. So do i wait for it happen again? maybe it will maybe it won't happen Question or shall i replace the module to be sure? £350 ouch. Thanks for all your replies. Did you replace you module Alex?

I wonder if the EPB system wasn't correctly bedded in / adjusted when it was last changed. Might be worth having that done first. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

No I never changed the module. I agree with RRStdv8, get the adjustment checked first. I took mine into my local dealer and they sorted it, new shoes were about 170 quid so you don't want to destroy them by just leaving it alone and seeing if it happens again... TDV8 Java Black, Overfinch 22s

There is an official method of adjustment in ToPIX, or in Bodsys brake bible Thumbs Up

depending on year of model. there is a pull switch on the center console. up for on down for off, foot needs to be on brake pedal when doing so.
