cost to replace two turbos 4K?

Hello,
another question for the experts, i tracked down the previous owner of my car and he told me he replaced both turbos on my rr sport around a year ago.
He had it done by an indie in macclesfield who charged 4k, does this sound too cheap or about right?

Depends on what payed for the turbos. As I understand it, it's a body off job to change the turbos on the TDV8 engine so maybe not to far off the mark with the 4k price.. 2008 G4 RRSport TDV8 current
2009 TDCi 90 current
2018 Discovery 5 HSE lux current
1994 Dakar current

new turbos, i.e. not reconditioned as far as I know.
tbh he advised that only one had gone but warranty repairer was HALFORDS! they tested the car and ended up with both gone!! how can they manage that one. But yes 4k was apparently the total price and it was body off as far as I know so I thought it was cheap.

I suppose I should take heart from knowing they've been done

Turbo replacement is a body off job on a TDV8. Turbos are around £1300 + VAT each from a dealer.

Allow 12-16 hours, and £4k is probably about right...

thanks Mikey,
that makes sense to me.
would it be likely that you would carry out other works at same time, i.e. filters and the like?

An oil and filter change would be a wise move. New turbo's will appreciate the fresh oil Thumbs Up

Would also advise front-rear brake pipes at the same time. Would be silly not to, IMHO

Any additional work would be on an as-needed basis Thumbs Up

Thanks Mikey,
i will have a look and see if this has been done, would there be tell tale signs of this? i.e. how does a non expert aka me, know what to look for?

Brake pipes will be a dark green colour, or rust showing through if they have not been replaced.

If they have been done, I would expect them to be shiny copper, or starting to go light green as the copper "corrodes"

There are quite a few people wish I lived down south, between this forum and D3/FFRR Laughing
