Apologies to my RRS

I have complained many times (on this forum) about the appalling reliability of our MY11 3.0 TDV6 (and its predecessor a MY10 HSE TDV8) but today our car was hit by a truck whilst stationary with my wife driving and baby in the back. All walked away without any significant injuries - a bruised hand from the airbag / steering wheel whipping round. I now remember why I bought an RRS! The car was spun round through about 120 degrees - the strength of them is amazing.

We will see what the insurers make of it - all airbags deployed, the rear wheel is no longer vertical and the back passenger side of the car no longer lines up with the front. You should have seen the truck - luckily the driver walked away from that as well.

Any guesses on if they will repair it? It was loaded with RSE, active dampers, paddle shift and active cruise control - if it is a w/o any ideas what I will get for it? (40k miles) Anybody (sponsors?) got any ideas on a replacement (Hertfordshire area)?

Singe

Exactly Martyn - I am just so glad they took the RRS for the school run and my wife wasn't in her mini. The strength of the RRS is phenomenal.

Too early to decide - I am not a great fan of the look to be honest, I endured far too much aggro with an early MY10 so I would prefer they were a little more tested (on somebody other than me this time). I also think I like the idea of a steel body after today's episode. The truck didn't really brake (no skid marks) and must have hit at an estimated 40mph plus. The steel chassis took most of the load through the rear wheel suspension arms - which are bent - pushing the car out of the way.

It still rolled under it's own power - but the rear o/s was like one of those circus bikes with off centre wheels.

There's no way they'll repair that. Roof damage is usually a big no no but in the end it boils down to how much it will cost to repair versus how much they will get salvage price. Someone will pay a decent amount and it will be back of the road as a cat c or d (or they'll just put your plate on a stolen one!)

My 335 had light front end damage and was still written off.

You will have to fight to get the price you want though, their first couple of offers will be derisory and 'final'. Get a nice courtesy car and be prepared to wait them out Thumbs Up

Glad it stood up to protect your family. I was thinking the same thing the other day when a corsa crashed near to me, killing both occupants..... Range Rover Sport HSE DYnamic SDV6 Velocity blue 2020 MY

This is the exact reason I like my family to be in big heavy well built vehicles, because when you really need them they don't let you down, my mrs is after a mini cabriolet but I forced her to have VW eos because I can just see the outcome if something like a truck or artic hits it, at least the eos weighs a tonne and has a proper roof

If all the airbags have gone off, plus the panel damage , I'm afraid it destined for a Cat C repair as salvage. It won't be fixed. Car will be replaced, family and loved ones can't be, so it has done its job. Hope the accident wasn't caused by the car playing up, I had a close shave on Wednesday when a car pulled out infront of my 55 tonne load and then stalled half way across a roundabout and wouldn't restart. Hope all are well and not too traumatised. Thumbs Up 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

apologies

+1

Glad to hear that your family are ok after the shock incident

It does go to show that even when we have a moan about our cars and their faults-that when the chips are down and you need to survive such an event the car gets 10/10

Great cars-I think that today, even though my car is in the workshop having suspension repairs- I will be so happy to get it back on Monday

Reecy

Testimony to the underpinnings of a proper chassis. Great news all are AOK. Be interesting to see how the new design without a chassis would stand up to a similar side impact.
