I'd agree with you Muddy.

I have all maintenance done at a local Indy and I wouldn't touch a stealer for that with yours….. Whistle

The Indy replaced the pads/discs last month and gave it a pre-MOT checkover. I know the car is all good so if the stealer finds anything it's the usual b*llshit as you say. Thumbs Up FF 4.4 V8 Soooo looking forward to this bad boy

As it's out of warranty I wonder if they use OEM stuff rather than LR branded stuff to keep the price down. Either that or they just spend less time on it! 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I think you are very close to the indy place I use in Stockport off Lancashire Hill. You can't go wrong with those blokes. You save £300 and I cant see it making a jot of difference on a five year old car.

My view is that if you include the garage paperwork with the service history you have no problem. If you can see that things were done when they needed doing then that's the important issue for a buyer. Anyone who thinks that "main dealer service history" = "better service history" these days is deluded and shouldn't be allowed behind the wheel of a car in the first place! 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I don't think flrsh is better than fsh and would trust my indi any day over the morons at dealer who can't fit tow electrics without scratching bumper and breaking panel clips but as long as I have a lr warranty and risk replacing a £12k engine I am forced to bend over the dealers barrel Sad

But there are people who only buy cars with main dealer history therefore not having it does limited the buyer.

Doesn't matter if you agree or not it's fact.

Of course it's a fact, question is if it's a significant factor and I honestly doubt it is, i.e. I suspect only a small percentage of prospective buyers would demand this. Recently bought a 2007 RRS HSE TDV6 for a Pimp-My-Ride-Project.
DONE: Meduza front bumper, AB rear bumper, AB tailpipes, calipers repainted, rear upper tailgate upgrade, side steps, AB front grille, AB side vents, rear LED lights, clear side repeaters, integrated daytime running lights, LED headlights.
TO DO: color code sills and pillars.

The biggest reason why someone would ask for flrsh is to haggle the price down if it doesn't. Recently bought a 2007 RRS HSE TDV6 for a Pimp-My-Ride-Project.

I don't know as I've never done a survey on it.

Maybe stick a status on Facebook and see what your collective audience has to say that way it's not just LR users as it would be on here.

Personally fsh for me but if it's got main dealer history then that's extra bownie points but a car purchase is taken as a whole not single components. But for some it's a deal breaker like in peachys thread about sunroofs, didn't some say they wouldn't buy a car if it didnt have a sunroof.

You can't please all of the people all of the time. I think a genuine seller like the OP who comes across as meticulous kind of guy is more important to a buyer. I'd rather buy off a guy like him than some clown at a dealer in a fat tie full of hair product on a commission.

Take what we do [Dyson vacs] as an example. Is a genuine part fitted by a guy of mine who has done it ten years somehow worse than paying more for some 'approved' place to do it? Of course not. I am sure businessmen here have similar comparables.

A specialist in any product, be it a certain brand of car, domestic appliance or whatever is always going to know more than an 'all-rounder'. I'd be perfectly confident in any specialist indy with a decent reputation. Why would I want to pay more to feed someones higher overheads, corporate profits and advertising?

Will the OP's car be worth £300 more for having one extra dealer stamp? I doubt it. So why should he spend that extra money if the local indy can do a good job too? Nobody will thank him for it. Except maybe Sytners shareholders.

The country needs small businesses. Use them. Very Happy

I've had people even ring me asking if it has full main dealer history and because it didn't they didn't ask anymore questions therefore a lost sale.

Somehow you think I agree with this but I'm really making the point to some buyers it is important.

Yea maybe in some peoples mind it will add value to a vehicle.

Daz, similarly, some people wont ring him as it might not have X wheels, X accessories, be X colour or be within ten miles from their home. All of us exclude some buyers of anything we sell by various sets of unknown metrics that are important to that guy.

He only wants one buyer. He doesn't need ten of them.

Spending an extra £300 on something that will exclude a very small percentile of potential buyers while not adding that £300 of value on it seems daft to me. I could get it if the car was two years old, and warranty was a factor, etc. But this car is five years old. The older a car gets, the less this stuff matters.

Lets do a spot test - A question for guys here, readers: Is there anyone here that would be put off going to look at a nice, clean five year old car because it had ONE non-LR dealer stamp in its history?

*cue crickets and snoring*
