Pop old switch out the hole
Unplug old switch, and plug in new switch

Alternatively, is there any OTHER way to open the tailgate glass?

Have you tried the LandRover button on your key fob? It's programmable - mine is set to release the upper hatch (this was presumably set by the previous owner). You might be lucky and find that it works.

Alternatively, you can pull the rubber cover off of the switch and have a look inside. If the spring is corroded you might still be able to press the microswitch directly. It is, according to others on the forum, possible to remove the switch in this situation by careful use of a thin blade pushed down the (short) sides of the switch. You can then remove the switch and plug the new one in to the loom. You should then be able to release the hatch and finish the job with easier access. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
