TDV6 or SDV6?

I'm currently on the market for an approx 3 yr old RRS autobiography ideally in black (with blk/ivory).

There are several vehicles that fit the bill that I am considering but I'm tempted by the SDV6, which seems were introduced in late 2011 and available at advertised prices from around 43k.

It looks like there is around a 3-4k differential between the TDV6 ad SDV6 variants all else being equal.

What would you do in this situation? Pay the extra 3-4k or save the money and go for the older TDV6 variant? I understand the SDV6 achieves slightly better fuel economy. Is it also likely to fair better on the depreciation front over a 2-3 yr outlook?

Any thoughts/opinions appreciated.

Thanks, Dan

I went from MY10 TDV6 to MY13 SDV6 a year ago and IMHO it was best move I made. Totally different vehicle and I would pay 3-4k more and get one. In the long run I believe it will hold value better too Thumbs Up Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

The most important difference IMHO is the gearbox - TDV6 is 6 speed whereas SDV6 is 8 speed.

Really? Can anyone else confirm that? Did LR really marry the 6 speed box to the early SVs?

England 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Orkney Grey

I'm not entirely sure about the sport but my old Disco 4 was an SDV6 and still had the 6 speed box. I bought it in May 11 and they changed to the 8 speed rotary dial thingy in late 2011 or perhaps early 2012. Definitely worth going for the 8 speed if you can - my RRS is not only more fuel efficient it is also more fun with the paddles and noticeably, and effortlessly, quicker in the 30-70 mid range. I also like the rotary know thing as well (some don't of course!). HSE Black - Orkney Grey, ivory leather, privacy glass, tow bar. GBNF - Discover 4 XS Nara Bronze (11); Discovery 3 HSE, Zermatt Silver (57); Discovery 3 HSE, Buckingham Blue (55); Volvo V70 Titanium SE (53); Audi A4 1.9 TDI SE, Denim Blue (02); Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 6, Black (99-V); VW Corrado VR6, Red (92-K); Toyota MR2, Racing Green (94-M); Nissan Sunny GTI, Red (92-K); Mk1 Toyota MR2 T-bar, Red (89-G); Citroen AX GT, Red (87-E); Talbot Horizon, Snot Green (83-A, I think).

Thanks for everyone's input on this! Smile

I think Bradders could well be right in that some early SDV6 RRS's may have the new engine but not the new gearbox. I will double check with the dealers against any SDV6's that I look at.

Is it simply the case that the gear lever in the cabin indicates 6 speed and the rotary thing indicates 8 speed?

Here is an SDV6 that looks like it defo has the 8 speed if the rotary thing in the pic is anything to go by although the dealer's description doesn't indicate either way and is a bit confusing!
