INDICATING - What's that all about?

Having traveled a few miles up n down our highways n byways, I've come to the conclusion that indicating - use of ones indicators - is old hat / unnecessary ... if . . . everyone is paying attention to what it is that they're doing. Discuss .... Thumbs Up

To most, indicators are Christmas tree lights and only to be used once a year. The old folks seem to think it costs money to put them on so avoid using them as they do their central heating in winter. ( usually driving a Toyota Aygo or bubble shape micros)
I'm not ageist but I concede that some of the older generation need to retake driving tests. In which they need to learn about indicators and not doing 50 in the middle lane of the motorway. Covering 60-80k miles a year, usually towing a 30 tonne drilling rig, I sit for tens of miles stuck behind these muppets while limited to 54 mph and banned from lane 3 and also undertaking.
Morning rant over, I'm off to bed Rolling with laughter Thumbs Up 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈
Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱
Lots of other toys in the cupboard...😜

I haven't noticed it is age related but like Simon regularly stuck in middle lane with caravan on due to muppets dozing in middle lane while lane 1 is used for growing grass Rolling Eyes

I use my indicators constantly changing lanes to avoid knocking off cruise control and a fine for not being in correct lane but people have forgotten what they mean or that there is 3 lanes so usually end up braking then reactivating cruise when I can get out which is why I use so much fuel towing Evil or Very Mad

Totally agree a lot pepole have lost the ability to indicate and it is across the age range. I believe that people over a certain age should be subjected to a medical as a HGV driver is. I think the phone has a lot to answer for the lack of driver awareness even hands free they forget what they are supposed to be doing.

I would have to say that people simply don't know how or when to use them or simply don't care. We then of course have the ones who believe that using an indicator has another meaning, give way to me Evil or Very Mad
How often have you been in the outside lane, complying with the speed limit of course Very Happy when some idiot indicates and simply pulls out in front of you believing that because they have turned on the orange flashy thing they do have right of way.

Speaking of 'Cruise Control' and 'middle-laners' Censored ; what about the many M'Way Muppets Sheep Sheep who, in their own sweet middle-lane-world, saunter up from your rear at their preferred speed [usually 2 mph faster than their intended overtakee] with little to no [read NIL] consideration for the fact that one [said overtakee] is swiftly [but safely] approaching a sub-50mph'er and will need to overtake or hit the breaks fairly soon! Do they assist by courteously a. accelerate thereby gettin oot ot'way before returning to the inside-lane? Laughing ... b. ease off of their pace thereby allowing your smooth transition to their private domain? [the middle-lane] Laughing . . . or c. tw#t along in their domain merrily oblivious to your passage? Thumbs Up

Paul, the problem with most lorry drivers is.... They hit the cruise control (yep it may be a shock they have one) and stick to the speed. I'm one of those who use it but also a bit of common, and won't bother to overtake unless there is more than a few mph speed difference. Indicators mean I intend to change direction not I am, taking up the previously designated safe braking zone, as already said, it is thoughtless drivers. Have to say as an HGV driver, I put indicators on then wait to be flashed in or out rather than barging. Towing a caravan gives you an insight but without the electronic nanny.
Oh and for those that stand on brakes then indicate, or not in some cases, GET A BUS!!!!! Rolling with laughter 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

I have noticed with BMW/Audi indicators appear to be an optional extra but bright flashing headlights appear to come as standard and they are allowed to undertake too Whistle

I appear to have an invisible combo (RRS + Caravan) - drivers regularly pull out in front of me causing me to brake hard, speed up as I come along side and fail to see my indicator when trying to overtake. Bit of a cliche but the proverbial sales rep driving sales rep cars (A4's, 3 series, Mondeos etc etc) seem to have great trouble in indicating their intentions.

But the worse (and most dangerous by a great margin) are HGV drivers. I try my best to give way to them on the motorway when it's safe to do so, but to some of them that doesn't matter, they simply bully their way out! There's been certain instances when I've been certain I would be swept into the central reservation and crushed but I've somehow managed to evade such incidents usually by having to slam on.

I'm sure their frustration is from other road users not letting them out, I get that, but I don't think some do themselves any favours when they're driving 40 plus ton vehicles.

Along with no indication and middle lane hoggers, (just been down to Somerset for a week and followed a car who would not move from the 3rd lane on a 4 lane motorway, only leaving the 4th lane for overtaking!!) my pet hate at the moment are those drivers who no longer stay over their side of the road. Come around blind corners and there they are straddling the white lines. What ever happened to respectful driving. Getting back to the indication, I followed a police car a while back for several miles and not a single indication!!

They have different laws in Somerset usually have front and rear bottom and far more aggressive than hose carrying version. White line is to straddle as is the boyfriend or horse, and driving down narrow lane means go as fast as you can even if you can't see Milestone Rolling with laughter 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

There are a lot of foreign trucks that operate over here now and are lefties and have a few blind spots. HGV are not allowed into the 3rd lane if they are there just report them. I think it would be a really good idea to make all people drive a 40 t. To appreciate some of the difficulties also make them ride a motor bike and a bike perhaps everyone would then be more considerate to their fellow motorist.
