Ever wished you didn't see what you saw ?

So here's the thing I have a camera fitted and the other day the car went in for a 'B' service. The front view video shows the car driven on the ramp - it appears to sit there on the ramp for about 15min. Bonnets opened and for about 2 hours it stays up and there’s some activity. The ramp seems not to have been raised during this time. Another 15mins and it’s taken for a test drive of about 15mins and then parked up.

After another hour it’s driven to the valet bay (even though I’d emailed and asked that it not be washed and valeted!) There is no record after another 20min until the car is driven back to me the following day.

My dilemma is that the dealer’s invoice says they undertook a wheel alignment as well as the ‘B’ service and according to the Service check-list they swap the wheels left and right on the same axle.

The video doesn’t show any alignment equipment on the ramp the technician used! And, I’m not convinced it was done after the camera was switched off following the valet and the car was parked!

When we had a Volvo XC90 serviced a few weeks back the Volvo dealer did a wheel alignment check and the printout was attached to out invoice so I’ve requested a copy of the alignment printout for the Sport because I suspect it weren’t done. Certainly looking at the suspension and track control arms there’s not been a spanner near any of them.

Now how would you diplomats approach the issue ?

I'd ask what their procedure is to change the oil for starters, then i would ask as above for a copy of the printout for the alignment that was carried out. If they say they lift the car up on the ramp to drain the oil, which i'm guessing they do, tell him then your car hasn't had an oild change according to your incar camera Shocked Then watch his face glow red. Embarassed All this should be taken up with the service manager.

I'd put the video footage onto a usb stick and give it to the service manager along with the service check list, ask him at what point they did the wheel alignment and wheel change. 2010 RRS TDV6 3.0 Autobiography - Stornoway Grey

Yep Land Rover Dealership.

I am tempted to pass it the LRCS but a view of the bonnet doesn't really show enough to prove work wasn't done.

I'm assuming the oil was drained as they charged for a new sump plug.

They also claimed to have installed a software upgrade to the infotainment system within the time !

To give them a chance to come clean I've emailed a request for the before & after alignment printouts and I've also requested the LR reference code of the update so we'll see what response it generates.

I would book a meeting with the service manager and take the footage in on a USB as suggested then watch it together. Ask him/her to point out where and when during the video each part of the work was done.

I'd also record the conversation for evidence to post on to his superiors along with the footage.

Then you want the work doing again for free.

Then post all of this on here and YouTube so everyone can see it.

It wouldn't be a surprise to me if the workshop had cctv installed so they could either defend their actions, or otherwise.

I usually have a peek at my footage, listened to the service guys discuss wages after the dealership changed hands, them point out the camera and suddenly the chat stops and the car driven at the speed limit (not that they was above it)

Then cringe as I see them wash it, though I normally don't mind nowadays, saves me the hassle

Great thread. Sadly it just reinforces my feelings about the service offered by most workshops and especially franchises. I hope you nail the b******s and get as much publicity as possible. This is fraud; pure and simple. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

^^^ not a NP dealer- Before naming names etc. I think I should play fair and give them the opportunity to answer the questions in my email.

If they start to play games then I'll do the same but for the moment they can have the chance to explain or dig themselves a bigger hole.
