I am sure we are all quite aware of this but I think you have missed the whole point here.
As my repair bill is now heading up to £10k and the police have now said that there have been over 70 cars attacked in this area within the last 6 weeks, LR SHOULD be offering support to their customers. This support can come in many different ways that would not necessarily cost them. A simple, but public statement advising customers to pin in their lights, grilles etc would help, once the thieves try a few cars and realise the items cannot be popped out they will stop trying. Admittedly this will mean that they will move onto another make/crime etc but hey, then we go again, isn't the aim for us all to keep getting smarter, not just accept that this will keep happening? I am sure if it had happened to you at this cost and was still a threat as it is to me- and many others in this area- you would not be quite as accepting of it.

One other point to note is that my car WAS parked in a secure area with CCTV as were many of the others targeted. These criminals came without tools and managed to cause this level of damage in 43 seconds......... I now am uncomfortable taking my car to the centre of the village I live in ....... by the way this is a very nice safe place.......

Interesting however to see how other business owners rate forums, personally I believe that it can be very useful to let you know where you can improve your business in the eyes of the most important people-the customers. I do agree that some customers DO want something for nothing, but I take offence that you may be suggesting that I or any other forum users are doing this, let me re-iterate, support is what is required.

Well sadly you failed as an Iphone can be hacked and broken into through use of Jailbreaking (ie USB lead and laptop) so that is a perfect comparison as Apple take no responsibility to who accesses your phone through external methods when it is your possession any more than car manufacturers do when it involves them being broken into.

They cannot be stolen without damaging the vehicle from what every report I have read states. So it still comes back to why are people trying to blame the manufacturer for criminals and theft?

Sorry Dcartner you are simply wrong. I've said before, any product can be stolen therefore your logic dictates that all manufacturers should state when selling and release press statements after about how they can be stolen? Ridiculous.

All high end cars suffer from thefts, it's a fact. BMW worst of all. I've been the victim so please don't talk to me about expenses as I am well aware of INSURANCE premiums. But I accept like most rational people that BMW didn't steal my car, a highly organised gang of criminals with high tech devices did, but it's better than being stabbed or mugged for my keys.

Anyway back to relaxing on the beach!

I don't believe the running around stealing lights - spare wheels - side vents & grills are organised crime syndicates - maybe taking the whole car - never too be seen again would be better for all concerned - that way the manufacturer could blame hi tech thieves. These petty crimes are driven in my opinion by supply & demand again no fault of the manufacturer.
Petty crimes - opportunist using nothing but very basic tools if any therefore that changes the game - surely then the manufacturer has a duty of care to somehow put right or demonstrate they at least give a about there customers - past,present & future.

None of these below were damaged or broken into which is why I made my comment - obviously if the window is smashed and the vehicle damaged you can't do much about it

I think that the problem goes back to the original concept of Land Rover.

1. They were utility vehicles built to have parts changed out easily in all terrains.

2. They have now progressed into luxury and expensive cars but have kept a lot of their DNA.

How many times have we worked on a vehicle wondering why we have had to dismantle half the vehicle to replace a part? It is very easy to criticise as we all do (football managers, golf captains etc,etc.). We all need to find a solution because at the end of the day it is our problem although Land Rover bares some of the responsibility. Also they would not be stolen if there was not a ready market for them and who buys them Honest owners as in "how much will it be for cash".

Well, I guess that LR could easily fit lights, spare wheels and other parts that can only be removed/replaced by dealers using special tools/keys only available to them.

Just wondering what the complaints on the forums would be then '08 RRS TDV8

if we owners recognise there is a problem...then i think we should take steps to prevent the theft, i.e. security screws etc...does anyone know if this particular problem still exists on the 2014 model or has LR designed it out? I have personally fitted fixings that require a tool for removing the fixings that is too wide to fit in the gap. Took 5 mins. Gone but not forgotten, 2005 RRS SC first edition, BMW 2010 Z4,TVR Tamora, TVR Cerb, MERC SL 55 AMG, E46 M3, Z4, Jag S type R, Skyline R33 GTR 640 bhp, Evo FQ 400, L322 RR, X5, Lotus Esprit V8 twin turbo, Lotus Elise 135r, Nissan Murano, Honda S2000, 911, Boxster s...and a few more

Since you have read your PM and decided to ignore it I will reply on here. My current IP will show me in Edinburgh, funny really as I've never been to Edinburgh never even been to Scotland to be honest. Just like I have never been to and have no idea where Grassington is. The fact is that when I am outside of the UK I use VPNs to allow me to use such services that are only allowed to people based in the UK.

As a moderator I would think you would have better things to do with your time than check IPs then in accurately post what you believe to be someone's location. I would also assume you would know more about IP spoofing, VPNs and the like. Just like when I'm on my O2 phone network the IP they often assign is associated with places hundreds of miles away from where I really am.

I didn't want to have to sidetrack the thread all because of a rather silly and inappropriate post by a moderator but by ignoring my PM pointing out your mistake, you didn't leave me much choice.

Feel free to delete/remove me from the site as if this is considered reasonable actions by those moderating then I'm not sure I want to be part of it.

I don't have to answer to you Mike as to why i haven't replied to the pm you sent me at the time i read it. If you can't take a bit of banter then i suggest you go back and play with your BMW friends or did they get bored with your comments too. If i was on a beach, the last thing i would be doing is logging into the RRS forum. You obviously have a lot of time on your hands by the length of your posts, as Nick says, get over yourself and take a chill pill.
