Phone dialling using voice recognition

Anyone know why using an iPhone 4 when I use voice recognition the system says phone directory empty. Do I have to add contacts manually?

yes i believe you do ... if my memory serves me right. I remember when i set mine up i had to sit and manually interact with the system to input peoples names, which is the option i took, it basically records your voice when you input a name. i know there is a section in the manual that explains how to do this. i think there is an option to input numbers as well... first step is to make sure your phonebook has downloaded to the system. 2010 RRS, TDV8

Think it will depend on the cars bluetooth module. My 2013 Black Edn downloads the contacts ok from my iphone 4

On your phone:

Settings>Bluetooth>Rangerover>
and make sure you have contacts synced that you want =)

Hope this is what you were looking for.

Cheers. So the Bluetooth settings are correct.
The phone book seems to be downloaded well I assume so as using the head unit I can access all the numbers.
Does this still mean you have to add people manually?

I had to add voicetags vs using the phones speech recognition.

Maybe there's another way , if so, I'm watching this thread with interest.

My contacts are there but I don't seem to be able to use voice recognition to call people.

I'll give the handbook a last shot but I think I'll take it to landrover. See what they say. I will post when I know.

as i said.... you will have to add contacts manually if you want to call someone by name, how else would the system recognise who you wanted to call. When you download your phonebook it only transfers numbers, when you set up voice recognition you speak the persons name you want to store, it records the name then associates a number with it. when you activate the voice command it asks for a name, it will play back the name you ask for then dial the number it is associated with. its sounds long winded but it only takes a minute to enter a stored name... or number, whichever option you use to dial out. 2010 RRS, TDV8

I went through the process of adding voice tags to some of my contacts. It still rarely works. Even though it accepted the tags, "phone Rita" becomes "phone redial", "phone grandma" becomes "phone cancel". I gave up in the end.

There were many things I disliked about the Audi I had previously, but you could use voice dialling for any number in your phone book without adding voice tags.

I do love my RRS though and would not go back to Audi. ---------------------------

^^^
lol, I found the same, only way it works is speaking like the "queen" which is fine when in the car on your own, not so when having passengers. or need speak the voicetag I assigned to SWMBO Embarassed Gone - MY12 SDV6, Orkney Grey, Ivory interior, Privacy Glass

My son has a 58 plate grande punto worth about £4k and I can voice dial any of my contacts by saying "call ****" Thumbs Up

My 13 plate B.Ed costing almost £60k needs to start with "phone call contact" then asks me to confirm name which brings up a list usually nothing like I said, then have to confirm number on list, then confirm Yes or No to dial by which time I could of driven to their house Rolling Eyes

Actually now I think of it it is a safety feature - it makes you want to pull over and ring them without using the bluetooth kit so discourages use of mobile while driving - same goes for the voice sat nav, audio, etc Laughing

When I first got it I used to try and impress passengers by using the voice system but now pretend it doesn't have one when asked so as to avoid the hysterical laughter and Censored taking that usually follows Embarassed Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

I sat the very night I got it and added all the names, it works flawlessly! It must be my Liam Neilson Northern Ireland Accent makes it afraid to not get it right. Twisted Evil

But it makes sense to add the 10 most used numbers, like home, office, wife, other wife and friends to the list and then dont go overboard, if your stuck stick your mobile into drive mode and do siri / samsung voice on it and your sorted.

I'd have guessed all you English speaking accents are even better at it?
