Idea for storing shotgun in boot?

I had a thought today Rolling with laughter i wanted to see what issues there are (if any) making a polystyrene insert to replace the existing and mostly unused styrene infill for the jack etc, to fit my shotgun in its broken form.
I like the idea of being out of sight, but wonder if there are any issues on doing such a thing?

And if possible making a lock for the shelf?

Your thoughts good bad or indifferent will be greatly received.

Very nice Wink , but i use my boot space and have dog with me, so i like the idea of shutting it away under the shelf.
do you use a Semi?

There's a chap on the D3 site selling a drawer that might suit - clicky.

Never mind:now sold.

I've had the same thought about using the tool space insert to hold my shotgun. Also had a thought about getting a security hoop fitted to the boot floor below the insert to fix a loop around the stock for added security. As I understand it, so long as you take reasonable precautions to secure the gun and store it out of sight in the vehicle then you're ok in law. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Something like the below for the floor cover should do the job I would have thought?

If you want extra security, then replace the wood of the cover (or enhance) with 5mm steel plate but I would have thought the pins will stop the opportunist and come under "reasonable" precautions.

I've used this company many times over the years for custom flight cases.

They'd be able to make a great insert, and possibly build a lockable case which could fit under the floor panel?

http://ds02.spiderscope.com/0710/music/index.asp?groupID=7340

Just call and ask. they do all sorts of custom jobs and are friendly to deal with

Good to here all you shooters...ive done a fair bit of shooting in America (hand guns, autos, black powder guns, rifles etc...joys of America friends with a good armoury) but just about to get my first UK shotgun, so almost like being totally new to it...don't have the sport anymore to support this conversation either

Land rover used to do an above boot case - don't know if they still do Mike
