Tyre advice - odd splits/slices on Continentals

Hi

Just changing back to summer tyres (not that we had a winter!)

Checked the Summers over and on two found some splits into the side wall in both cases the inside wall, plus some cracks that look as if they may develop into similar slices/splits.

I guess I may have hit something that hit both inside walls, but think it unlikely.

Could this be a manufacturer fault ?

Anyone seen similar or advice on how to claim if could be manufacturer fault?

Don't think safe as the larger splits goes down to the inside layer of the wall.

Thanks

Martyn

I was told that we suffer more with tyres and alloys due to the size wheels we run, when I was having my lupo's oz's refurbed there were more range rover wheels than any other. quite a worry

Do you have any 'sleeping policeman', or similar, type traffic control humps on you regular route?

The worst humps are those that do not cross the full width of the road (i.e. the square type in the middle of the carriageway) they tempt drivers to try and straddle them - aiming to get a wheel each side of the hump to minimise the 'hump'..

This is bad for your tracking and suspension alignment and will cause the sidewalls of the lower profile tyres to crack - especially Continentals which seem more prone to this type of damage.

Mechanical sympathy for your Sport and good engineering practice says you should never (if it can be avoided), straddle a hump - it is best to let one wheel ride the hump square on - which - horror of horrors- means slowing down Thumbs Up .

Thanks all.

Rarely park on kerbs, but have done so could be that.

Will change the two with splits as a blow out at 80 in 2.5 tonnes doesn't sound fun!

I have Vredsteins on for the winter and they have done really well so think I'll go for their summer version the Ultrac Sessanta
