If I was in the market for a road-only 4x4 then I'd be seriously looking at something like that Porsche. The RRS is going to face serious competition from that in the "I want a fast road-only 4x4" sector... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HST Java Black

Porsche's popularity completely baffles me, they are ugly on the outside and the interiors are a deeply depressing sight. I've driven a few in my time and really don't see what the fuss is about; their BMW-esque marketing of "buy our car, it will automatically turn you into a superior driver" seems to be lapped up by men having a middle-aged crisis.

And why anyone would buy the Porsche V8 TDI when they can buy the Q7 V8 TDI (which will be almost identical) for considerably less is beyond me, a point which the PH piece misses even though they compare prices with the RRS...

Sounds like a great choice of 4x4. Servicing is only required every 20,000 miles or 2 yearly so another saving there.

I must admit to being bias here as I changed from a 2010 Sport to a 2012 Range Rover Westminster to a 2014 model Porsche Cayenne S diesel (similar to the road test one) .

The Cayenne has every thing I want while both Range Rovers had things I never used but had to pay for.

If I needed something that big, I'd definitly take a test drive in one of these as well as a RRS2.

Much has been written about the huge size of the Cayenne S Diesel, but compare the facts against the old and new Sport models.

Dimensions (mm) Cayenne New RRS Old RRS

Length 4846 4850 4783

Width 1939 2073 2004

W+mirrors 2155 2220 2158

Height 1705 1780 1789

So apart from being 63mm longer than the old RRS, the huge Cayenne is smaller in every other dimension than both old and new Sport models.

Maybe the new RRS should be referred to as the Gigantic Sport. Whistle Rolling with laughter

Sorry the spaces entered between the dimensions all disappeared once posted.
