Passenger killed after Discovery loses control of caravan!

Sad story here and shocking that a caravan this small could cause a big Discovery to lose control Shocked

I used to tow a Twin axle up to 80mph with a land cruiser back in the late 90's so this makes me realise how stupid that was. The RRS never goes over 60 with the box on back - gets a bit twitchy for some reason but I take my time now Embarassed

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Santorini Black

Sadly this will be one of many such events up and down our motorway network as the caravanning season gets underway. There should be compulsary training with a test to tow on our roads.

2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black

Shocked

My twin axle is happy at 65mph and the mpg doesn't suffer too much at that speed either...

I think the lesson is just because you have probably the best towcar in the world, it does not make you invinsible...

There is if you passed your test after 1997 as I did, so I had to take a trailer test to tow my caravan. (If the total car and caravan is under 3.5 ton you can get away without a test)

The test includes hitching, unhitching, 1 hour driving on roads with trailer, reverse parking etc.

I've not towed with the sport yet but I'd of thought I'd would be very sturdy?!?

I wondered if the aerodynamics of the land cruiser being a brick punched a hole in front of the caravan whereas the sport being sleeker was causing a slipstream against the front of the van. Also we carried more gear in the vehicle when we had the cruiser as it was cavernous and took 3 kids then with awning, etc whereas now just the 2 of us Confused

It could be the current caravan design to blame - the replacement comes with stability control fitted so will be interesting to see the difference towing Thumbs Up Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW
