Security Marking to deter theft of lights

Anyone looking to reduce the likelihood of thieves selling stolen lights without fear of them being traced might want to look at these http://www.carsecuritymarking.co.uk/acatal...ching.html Thumbs Up

I am now thinking of a plastic kit for lights and glass set for windows or am I going too far Confused Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Wales 2005 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Vesuvius Orange

not too far, but a bit unsightly on a nice car. very popular in the 80's though ! those days , garages applied the numbers, don't know if DIY would look very good, what if you 'bungled' it up on first attempt ?  RR Sport Supercharged Vesuvius Orange 4.2 V8 First edition

Prefer RR Vouge S/C but they don't do Orange !

Going to far, maybe, maybe not but..

For my $0.02 and what it's worth.

Being new to ownership of a RRS and frequenting these forums I"m mindful of the point that got the vehicle in first instance to enjoy.

It's good to be aware of potential problems that owning such a vehicle has but in all honesty, if I act or worry on every weakness that's highlighted, security/mechanical, I'll quickly stop enjoying being an owner and feel the cars more of a liability than something to enjoy.

Each to his/her own and do what you feel need to but nasty things happen, it's a fact, Opportunistic crime can, with some consideration , be made less ?opportune? but the organised stuff is going to happen regardless. Wrong place, wrong time and you're a victim, regardless.

My post might have been placed just as equally on a number of recent threads, I thought would share my thoughts with your question Muddywheels but no necessarily at you directly..

Happy Driving
J

I dont think it's too far at all. If the thieving b*st*ards cant sell them on, they will look elsewhere. As Peachy says, it's all about prevention as far as possible.

Group buy maybe ?? FF 4.4 V8 Soooo looking forward to this bad boy

I'm looking to reduce risk and make it harder for the Censored

Swmbo says I'm like a dog looking for a spot to relieve itself when I park but to me it's part of owning such a desirable vehicle and common sense - well lit, cctv, end space, etc........ I don't think I could ever buy a Ferrari or Aston Martin as I wouldn't be able to park it anywhere except garage at home Laughing

Looking at caravan windows etching vin on lights and glass wouldn't be too offensive in dot format without the bright red warning Confused Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Tempted to get a set with the red paste. I assume the red paste will leave a red etching - something that I think is useful if you want to stop the theives BEFORE they start their work. It's no good the thief finding the etching once he's got the lights home. He'll just bin them and you've still lost your lights. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Correct RRSTDV8 - red etching should stand out more - I was going blue but I may get red as you say it will stand out more - just hope it doesn't spoil the look of the clear lights Embarassed

My caravan has blue etching on privacy glass so you don't notice them unless you look for them Confused Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

This site demonstrates the idea well Bow down

Note - on the site I posted above it recommends last 7 digits only according to Police - this sounds good as I would not want to send my full vin to a website Confused  Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

It's got to look better than two headlight shaped holes at the front!

As I say, I'd want it obvious - something difficult to see might not be a deterrent... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Can't argue with that RRSTDV8 Embarassed Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

^^^^ I'm with you guys anything that let's the opportunist thief know the units are either hard to remove and/or are hard to re-sell must be worth considering. Thus the more visible the better but within keeping with the RRS's looks.

Perhaps the etching could say the lamp is marked and coded to the VIN rather than simply display the VIN number - but the whole VIN is readable from the tag inside the screen.

Im like you it would seem...even with the Disco

It doesn't to mark it and you could do it tastefully...the only problem might be warranty.

If it wasn't to act as a deterrent then you could put it along the boot shut line.

Oh and isn't the theory make your car less attractive and leave them to go to the more attractive car in the car park. Sad but true?? Mike
