Adding tv tuner

I have a standard sat nav touch screen unit with no tv facility , is it possible to add tv to this ? Or how do I go about adding tv (new unit) ? Or after market unit , any ideas ?

I have free-view ( aftermarket ) - Blackvue & reversing camera - playing through my sat nav screen. You need a GVIF unit to make the screen read the signal to enable it to work as a tv - monitor. It can be a DIY job but not for me Rolling with laughter use the search function on the top banner - you will find a lot more info Thumbs Up 16MY Estoril Blue SVR.............

If I'm honest - hit & miss Rolling Eyes same with the sound - certain channels are better than others - it's more of a gimmick than a regular used piece of kit. Saying that - George & Mildred @ 6am in the morning is hilarious. It becomes funnier as you get older Whistle 16MY Estoril Blue SVR.............

2011 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

As above.
Gvif £200
Dvbt tuner eBay Item No. 250847377171 ebay item number £149 this is a good tuner very stable,it sometimes struggles if large trees or tall buildings interfere with the signal but speed causes no issues.
Reverse cameras are approx £17 on ebay again these are decent ones and give really good night image,I've tried the £5 ones and you see nothing at night.

Both gvif and tuner are plug and play, gvif you plug your sat nav into it and the gvif into the lead that you unplug from your sat nav that goes to your screen.
Rear camera it's just the cable run that's the pain, not hard but just because you can't hide the cable on the upper tailgate section, black gaffer tape is your friend here. Thumbs Up

Gvif under passenger seat
Dvbt tuner under rear passenger seat
Aerials 1 front near side windscreen 1 rear offside quarter light window
Works for me Thumbs Up

I just spoke to a guy who suggested I get an ipad mini with an unlimited Internet SIM card and fit it to existing sat nav screen
Then download sky go plus sat nav to ipad , not sure if this is a good idea or not.

Hi Rich I went down the tablet route and I have to say it is awesome! Started with the iPad mini but ended up swapping it for a 8.0 samsung tab 3. Android offers a lot more over ios and it's useful connecting to the odb port for fault finding error codes (hopefully not too often) as well as running applications like torque.

Sky go and digital radio make it worth it alone. Downside is you can't connect a reverse camera but for that I have a LCD rear view mirror connected up to a reverse camera in the tow bar cover (means no wires run against back window like the number plate camera have).

The tab took much more effort than the iPad mini, the min can be installed in a couple of hours with very little effort. Also if you are not worried about returning the car to stock when you sell it you can build a bracket for the iPad allowing you to remove the sat nav and sell it on covering the cost of the install Very Happy

There is a good tutorial on here that helped me no end Smile

Hi Rich

I ran a separate 12v from the console to the lower glove box. I plug the mini USB in here which means I can still plug the USB into the laptop if I need to do something to the tablet to save having to remove it. This was useful for the iPad if you want to run the latest jailbreak etc. If the battery runs flat on the tablet it will automatically turn on when charge is applied , I.e the engine turns on.

Another reason for switching to android was it offers much more control around shutting functions down when no power is received by the tablet. This means when the engine is off the tablet automatically switches to power saving move and turns off wireless, Bluetooth, syncing etc. The samsung tablet battery lasts for over a week even when I don't use the car for a week. The iPad would go flat after a couple of days if I didn't use the car (and I forgot to turn everything off on it )

I also fitted a Bluetooth audio adapter in the glove box, I wired this directly to the aux connection I made running from the passenger footwell. This means that the tablet automatically connects to the cars new Bluetooth audio connection as soon as the engine is on, the quality of the audio over this compared to the tablets line out is remarkable. It also means that any other phone I.e the wife's can stream audio as we'll saving the need to plug in to the aux connector in the back.

I have uploaded some photos of the iPad mini and the samsung tab to my gallery so feel free to have a look and how the compare once fitted Smile

Jay
