Bit of a debate on another forum on which foot is best to use when driving an auto.
Personally I've always used the right, any thoughts?

I thought that you brake with your right foot when you know what you are doing and braking with your left foot is something that you do accidentally just before you nearly cause an accident when you first get an automatic.

OK......I'll bite.

You should only ever use the same foot for control of the accelerator and brake, leving the unused foot firmly planted out of the way.

The reason for this is that in an emergency stop / braking situation if you panic you may find that you are accelerating and braking at the same time, thus increasing your overall stopping distance.

I believe if you don't shuffle the wheel on your test you fail. So no, I did not pass the test driving the way a normal human being would, I shuffled the wheel the way the examiner expected.

I didn't left foot brake at the time. I only started after a couple years of driving when I read it's quicker and safer. I've been doing it since and have had no problems with brakes, engines, or flying passengers. It makes a car a lot more controllable 2015 Golf R DSG

Emergency stop = both feet  2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈
Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱

Only when rallying to set up a power slide. As mentioned above its dangerous for emergency as the momentum can throw your weight onto throttle.

In a previous life, thought I'd let my F-i-L drive my 6 day old brand new automatic car.

All was good until we got to a roundabout and he hit what he thought was the 'clutch' nearly sending us both through the windscreen as he'd hit the brake with his left foot. ................then, less than a second later, we were smashed into from behind.......the bloke behind was not very happy
