2010 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 Autobiography Santorini Black

Oem silver towing covers with colour coded grill surrounds gets my vote. Should look stunning in that colour, can't wait to see the finished article. Keep the pics coming throughout! Enjoy!

Oman 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Vesuvius Orange

Well finally got the kit through customs at the port and had time to go unpack it at the garage.

So time for an update with photos of the kit as received:

Well have to say the packaging and quality are very good. My mate in the garage was impressed how good the parts were. Also despite saying the didn't supply clips bolts etc a number of these items came with the kit Very Happy

Only downside is that I discovered that the fog lights are missing Evil or Very Mad I guess I'll have to source some from elsewhere as getting them from China will probably take too long...

Plan now is to check everything and prime again, then mate it up to the car starting at the rear before painting and final fitting.

Can't wait but have to as the garage can only fit me in on Sunday onwards Neutral

With regards the colour coding looks like I'll be following the OEM scheme with silver for the lower front and rear bumpers as they are already painted. The Autobiography grille is being swapped for a standard SC grille painted black only, side vents will be orange and black. Finally door handles will be colour coded.

Did I say I can't wait??? Oh yes I did.

Afterwards the interior is up for some more work as per my other threads.

Cheers

Damn the internet....

I'd decided on keeping the OEM look with the silver tow eye cover at the front and the tow bar cover and sides at the rear because the parts came already painted in silver... but now a mate emailed me the photos below and I'm back to wondering whether I should get them painted black... Confused

So what do you reckon Question The only difference to my Sport is that I don't have a black roof. Otherwise the grille etc are what's being installed, oh and I have the Glohh rear lights Wink

Personally, I rather like it as there is no other silver on the car so why introduce another colour...

Comments please Very Happy

Cheers

Cheers Guys Thumbs Up

I actually like the roof as well, but, in Oman you need to get approval for a colour change from the police, which is a hassle, I think for the moment I leave the roof orange as I want my car back... but definetely tending towards the all black and orange approach on the bumpers.

Cheers

Ok, so a definite yes to the black/ orange scheme Very Happy

Mike, no need for security bolts in Oman. Crime is very low due to the punishment and the prisons people reside in.

Basically, if an expat is caught stealing, it's 3 months in a proper prison, not a British prison with wifi, tvs etc., and then deportation. Gone are the days when they chopped of your hands for stealing but hey ho...

It is very safe here, we leave our garage open all the time, front and back doors unlocked and if you do leave your mobile phone lying around it's usually returned. Oh and the engine running when you pop into the petrol station or shop to get a few things...

Cheers

Talking of the Glohh rear lights, has anyone else on the forum apart from Guyzer73 fitted them to their RRS?

Those tail lights on the Bespoke are the originals slightly smoked.

Oman 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Vesuvius Orange

Ok the garage is making slow progress on the conversion due to a number of issues with the kit, but they are getting there Very Happy

The issues with the kit are:

Product Quality issues:

1. Headlights are supplied without the positioning lights. Not an issue in Oman but maybe elsewhere. I think I can get that rectified if I want to. I think for a couple more US$ they should have provided these positioning lights.... hence the inclusion here.
2. Headlights are also throwing an error message on the dash but I think this can be resolved through a calibration.
3. One of the mounting brackets for the headlamp washer jets is missing - this is probably the biggest PITA and we’re now scrambling to resolve this with Peachy’s and Dan at Duckworths help Thumbs Up . I’m also going back to the original supplier. This is really a QA/QC failing at the factory. If it had been picked up there in the first place it wouldn’t have been an issue. It should also have been picked up by the garage and myself when we unpacked the body kit... EDIT the missing link has been found Very Happy Basically it would seem they never plastic welded in place during manufacture and it had at some point fallen out and been lodged in the guts of the bumper. The garage found it when they were trying to retro fit the old washer jets. It will now be bonded in place and all will be good. So this quality issue is now less serious and more another oversight in the manufacturing process.
4. Wings are from thinner grade steel, so have to be treated with care and have only acceptable shut lines when offered up to the front doors. Little can be done to rectify this. The price of buying non OEM parts.
5. Fog lamps missed the boat and had to be supplied separately, and when they arrived due to the poor packaging one was damaged, but fixable. Again a QA/QC failing at the factory that could have been avoided.

Fitting issues are:

1. The kit is incomplete. I will provide a full list at the end of the build of what is missing and needed to do the job properly.
2. OEM Rear washer jet and aftermarket reversing camera do not fit the new roof spoiler as expected, after confirmation from the supplier. You need to either hack away at the roof spoiler to get the jet to fit, or get the newer version suitable for the roof spoiler. For the reversing camera the garage is saying you need to get the OEM one from LR nothing else will fit without hacking the spoiler to bits... I’m looking into both as I write.
3. As mentioned above the panel lines between the new wings and front doors are not great but with some work can be made to be acceptable. The passenger side (UK driver’s side) is worse with some metal needing to be removed as it’s fouling the door when it’s opened.

So that’s the bad stuff listed and to be honest whilst it seems a lot, most of it is QA/QC issues. The biggest issue if they hadn’t occurred would be the poor fit of the front wings, and all the extras you need for it to be a complete kit...

So the good stuff:

1. The quality of the bumper covers and roof spoiler are good. Just a note they are primed with a water based plastic primer. If you are going to use a solvent based paint (as we did) you need to strip this off back to the plastic and start over. No big deal if you pick it up before you start, we did thankfully.
2. The fit of the bumper covers and spoiler are also good so no issues there.
3. The additional parts like front grille, side vents, fog light surrounds, tow eye cover, etc are also good and the fit good.
4. Headlights, apart from the comment with regards the position lights, the quality is good and you really can’t tell the difference between them and OEM lights. Fit obviously also good.
5. Fog lights, again bar that they missed the boat, the quality and fit is good.

Now some pictures of the current progress:

I'll provide a fuller write up once I have got the car back and received the comments from the garage.

Thanks again to Peachy and Dan at Duckworths for the help Thumbs Up

Cheers

Well all done and the cars back in mine hands... Very Happy

Quick couple of photos of the front with and without numberplate:

Basically everything looks great a couple of problems which need to resolve are:

1. When using the indicators the tick, tick, is very rapid as if led bulbs are installed. Will need to check the exact bulb installed from the factory and try a different bulb to see if that resolves the matter....
2. The AFS warning light is flashing I think this can be resolved with a proper calibration.
3. One of the HID bulbs blew within minutes of running the lights... Censored

Otherwise happy as a pig in s*** with the result just need to iron out the electrical problems then all done.

A more extensive write up with photos to follow...

Cheers
