2009 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey
Beginners DSLR Camera

Can anyone recommend a beginners DSLR camera, nothing too flash just need a point and shot for holidays that gives excellent pictures, I've got a decent compact but landscape and zoom shots are a bit disappointing. Would also need something thats not too bulky, budget around £500 Question 2019 BMW X3 2.0i M Sport in metalic black- Brilliant
2014 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Atlantic Grey, replaced with 2018 Frost White Outlander PHEV, can't fault em - now gone

2009 TDV6 HSE in Stornoway Grey, 20" alloys, Privacy Glass & Side Steps - Fantastic! but gone

Hi mike
You could try the canon sx500is. It's a half size dslr with a built in zoom lens that is just amazing! I have one one I can highly recommend it. Is is only about £200 and take pics like a much more expensive camera.
As it's for holidays it is perfect' very light small and fits in the hand lovely.
Have a look on you tube you will be very impressed. Only down side is very low lighting shots but you can always boost the shots up in photo shop.

Chris.

Canon EOS 600D might be with a look Smile

Best advice would be to go to a camera shop and get a grip of some cameras, we all have different hands, what may fit me may not fit you. 2006 RRS SC Bonatti Grey (the 55th car/van I have owned)

I have a Nikon D3100, great starter camera, range of lenses but it relays on AF-S lenses with the focus motor built in (costs more £££) thinking of upgrading to a D7100 as they take both AF-S lens and AF which are cheaper as they don't have a motor

That something to bear in mind when buying, I'm waiting before I do as my friend at Nikon gets a better discount later in the year.

Have you thought about a Bridge Camera? Bit smaller can swap lenses and can do some great shots

Have just bought my dad a G5 version, older but shoots really nice and saves money for lenses etc

Hi Mike21

Be very careful with this one, it only goes two ways Twisted Evil

(1) Month 6 you put your £500 camera in the cupboard or on ebay because it's just too much of a pain to carry around Whistle

(2) decide that you need more glass in front of the body and that's a really expensive hobby.. there's always someone with a bigger lens and something further way that's moving fast that you want to shoot.
Big Cry

Thumbs Up

That aside, there's the Nikon vs Canon choice to be made.
Me, I'm on the Canon side of the fence!

Good luck

I got my wife one recently.

I did a lot of research and ended up buying one the same as a pal of mine got his wife: Panasonic Lumix G5. She loves it.

I found a guy selling them on eBay and then found his own shop cheaper.

if you are leaning towards a point and shoot, i would get a bridge camera..some have decent zoom lenses which will help when taking holiday snaps..

United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Santorini Black

I have a Canon EOS 600D which takes excellent pictures. I did compromise with the lens - I bought a Tamron 18-275 compact zoom. Purists will tell you that you lose quality through cheaper lenses but it is a huge step up from the point and shoot iPhone snaps i used to take. The lens collapses to the size of the 55 mm lens that the camera came with but is much more versatile. It's light too which is an added bonus as I travel a lot. ---------------------------
