Just trying to ascertain if you get 'winged' headrests with the rear screen option.

I was torn between the FFRR and new RRS so my dealer loaned me a FFRR for 24 hours last year. One of the things it had going for it was the unbelievably comfy winged headrests. When I eventually made up my mind to buy the RRS, this wasn't an option on the Sport when I ordered back in August. I believe now it is???

However, I read somewhere that winged headrests come with the rear screen entertainment package. Not sure if this is correct.

Yes another thing the dealer doesn't know. I guess I'll find out in a few weeks. Current...

I've got the rear entertainment, the headrests are slightly angled and are really comfortable!

Don't think the Sport's headrests are 'winged' though. The Style 7 headrests (the ones with the 10.2 screens) appear the same as the Style 5, and these aren't winged. I believe the FFRR winged headrests have motorised wings that can be opened/closed.

Maybe completely wrong though as unlike others here I don't have one. 

The driver will fall asleep at this rate...

Since an RRS has been on my radar, I've noticed that apart from motorways, when you have 2.5 tonnes of metal hurtling down the outside lane, I've been surprised at how rarely I see RRS's and FFRR's being driven in what you might call a spirited way.

Down here in Gloucestershire, it's all a bit sedate, especially a reluctance to overtake the artic holding everybody up. Maybe they don't think they have enough fuel to do it or lack the grunt or maybe the RRS/FFRR induce a soporific state of mind and winged headrests are part of the reason.

My Evoque can do a reasonable job but my 117k mile Subaru Impreza still runs rings around it and it's that lack of overtaking ability which is my main reason for changing to the 5 litre Supercharged. Mark

The new FFRR that I had on loan for 24 hours certainly did not have motorised headrests.

What they had was very soft padding in the center of the front headrests and it was this that drew my attention as they were super comfortable.

When I first tried out the new RRS, whilst comfortable, the headrests were hard by comparison and didn't have that lovely supple feeling on the back of the head.

I've since understood (probably incorrectly) that the FFRR's headrests are called winged, and you get the soft headrests in the RRS when the rear seat entertainment option box is ticked. Otherwise you get the firmer headrests?

A few years ago I was helping my 22 year old revise for her Driving Theory test. One of the many questions in the book was this,

You are on a motorway trip and you are feeling tired. Do you......

A) Stop on the hard shoulder and rest.
B) Complete the journey as quickly as possible
C) Wind all the windows up and increase the cars heating.
D) Leave the motorway at the next exit

Obviously answer C tickled the hell out of me.

Just had a quick look on-line and sadly it seems answer C has now been replaced with a more sensible option...... Carry on but go slowly. Brilliant!

Ha! It will not be too long before it is possible to let your car drive you home. It has been known that some people believed that cruise control would do that and have sued when they crashed, I will give you three guesses to which country.

Came across a few images that clearly show the differences between the normal headrests and the 'winged' type you get when ordering the rear entertainment system with headrest screens.

The first pic is of the standard 'thin' headrests (which are more than comfortable by the way),




The other two pictures (cropped from a you tube review of the new RRS) show the much deeper and slightly wider headrest you get with the screens built in. In fact they look to be way bigger than the standard fare.

In Belgium you get the winged headrests when you choose the style 5 seats (18-way adjustable) + the RSE with 8" screens built into the headrest. When you go for the bigger and more expensive 10.2" screens, you don't get the winged ones. Go figure.

So from my understanding:

Style 5 seats and no RSE or 10.2" RSE - normal headrest
No style 5 with 8" RSE - normal headrest (although thicker to include the screens)
Style 5 with 8" RSE - winged headrest

Perfect, I have style 5 with the 8" screens so looks like winged headrests it is  Current...
