X6...Anyone?

Hi Guys! Smile

Having second thoughts about the Q7. I can't bring myself to spend £40k on a model due to be replaced within a few months. I am single, so have no need for the other 6 seats (although the extra space is always welcome for my wheelchair). Both on top of which, I work less than a mile from home so it's a lot of money to spend on a car which will see 4k miles a year at most!

I've started looking at X6's, possibly 2010/11 Diesel Models. Anyone here with any experience of them or advice?

Hope everyone is well Thumbs Up

England 2011 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Siberian Silver

I had one for the weekend. The only real cristcims I have are as follows:

1) The shape outside is like Marmite. you either love it or hate it. Think in grey it has to be one of the worst cars I have ever seen.

2) Inside the cabin space is nice and spacious. Maybe a little bit too plain for my liking. But if youre over 50 youll like the simple approach. There just didnt seem to be enough gadgets for me.

3) The boot is rubbish. There is hardly any room for stuff if you are into shopping as much as me. In fact i think youd struggle to golf clubs in and a bag. It just seemed an odd shape. I had the model with the auto boot open (A sensor under the rear bumper) which was a great feature but apparently one of the most expensive non standard features ever. I really dont think you would be able to get your wheelchair easy in and easy out. Although I guess you could ask at the dealership to try.

4) The gear box was nice and smooth, that was after you get in 3rd gear. It seemed to be almost like you feel every lower change. And no I wasn't thrashing it, not all the time.

The plus points are :

1) The BMW I drive is really good on the newer models, If you pay the license fee and use all the features like News, google to car and the BMW apps are amazing. Try download BMW Connected, BMW Remote and BMW Link. They are all easy to use and actually enhance the driving experience.

2)Erm..........

In all honesty I think for the amount of money that you would pay for one, I would stay away from BMW, they loose too much money too quick (v recent experience)!!! I would take your money and reinvest in Landrover. I have had 13 months of my sport and when I looked at getting another 4x4 ive tried them all and yet even after all my issues and heartache. Its still the best in class.

I also tried the infinity, may i add this has to be the worst car I have ever driven, I would have welcomed back my old Nova 1.3 sr (my first car) after driving this. It was so numb, un responsive and looked like an overpriced nissan. Which of course it is. SO ill save you the trouble of looking at that one too.

Hope this helps a little

Thanks for the reply Foxy Smile

50!? I'm 27! I know what you mean by the interior, my 5 series was a bit sparse even with most of the options. The new iDrive system looks cool, defo after one with ConnectedDrive (not sure if it's standard?)

I'm one of the few that likes the way it looks. I actually went to the 'launch event' at Sytner Leicester as I had a 5 series back then and was looking to swap to a 4x4 of some sort.

I'd love to have another RRS but my main issue is the size of the cabin. My condition means I need the width in the footwell - The Q7 and X6 have this in abundance whereas the RRS is extremely narrow. I have to stop every hour or so to get out and stretch when on a long trip. I'm driving up to Newcastle on Sunday and already dreading it!
The FFRR is perfect too....but it's too high for me and I can't get into it, even when its in Access Mode.

All in all, it's leaving me short of options. I am slightly worried about the boot size of the X6 now you've mentioned it and will definitely have to check if I can get my chair in/out.

I'll stay away from the Infinity! Thanks for your reply LCFC. Receiver of threatening letters from Overfinch.

I had an X6; a great on-road 4x4. Cornering is brilliant as was reliability. Good on fuel for what was especially on motorway runs when it was pretty quiet even though it was on massive runflats.

OK the looks are either good or bad depending on personal taste. I thought it was a fun "Tonka" toy.

It you want boot space then go for the X5 my buddy and I frequently got 2 full size golf bags and electric trollies in it with no issues but you need to check out the boot floor height is good for you.

I think the space grey looks good.

As for the suggestion that the depreciation is bad I don't agree, I made a profit on mine so it depends entirely on the deal you strike.

If you like it why not, you`re only here once.

I have a new 4.0D X6. It's just my wife and me. It has had plenty of boot use with seats down moving house recently (with lots of protection of course) I had always wanted one. For my use, I can't think of a better car. It goes like a rocket, corners like her indoor's Mini and I love the looks. The I drive is great.

I have no dislikes. My second car would be an RRS if I could afford both..... Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm sure they are great to drive, most BMW's are.

How did you find the cabin space compared to the RRS?

Again, with the boot, nothing else goes in besides my wheelchair so as long as I can get this in and out, I shouldn't have a problem. LCFC. Receiver of threatening letters from Overfinch.

Cabin space is great, mine is a 5 seat version but it's mainly me and occasionally 2 of us. We went for. Picnic at Christmas (summer) with 4 up, boat hitched on the tow bar, boot with my "towing box" (stuff I might need) and a couple of ice chests for drinkies, lifejackets etf and food for 4. No problem.

As an adults SAV not designed for mud plugging, it's hard to beat in my opinion. An RRS would have done the same though..... Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6

Ref OP's question on "Cabin Space" - I had no issues with the space in my X6.

However, because BMW tend to use dark grey or black headlining this can make it seem smaller than it actually is - I went for the light leather upholstery and trim which lightened the cabin and made is a more 'airy' environment.

Driving to have brekky by the beach this morning, I hear the unmistakable tick tick of something in my tyre. A quick inspection reveals big roof nail in one of my 315 / 35 back tyres.

Off to the tyre shop, new one fitted and all paid for by BMW Rim and Tyre insurance, which has just paid for itself after 2 months and 1500'miles. Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6

I thought the X6 only came with four seats?

If they can be bought as a five seater, I can put them on the list of future potentials...

Different specs in different places? Jas, it's not a 3rd row but a 3rd seat, ie no console in the middle of the back seat. Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6
