Thieves in your area, please read.

Just recently i have been called out to two separate clients who have had the same thing done to them.
They have asked for advice, here’s what happens..!

Both clients have gone shopping at large retail park, and half way through their days shopping, they periodically come back to the car unload the bags of goodies, and back in they go.

The shocker..
When they finally come back to the car they open it to find all presents gone, no forced entry and the car is locked.

The double whammy..
When the insurance Co get notified, they are not interested as they say no damage or no proof of break in, sorry..!

The answer..
Always open your car with the key if possible, and not with remote, as there will be someone sitting very nearby with a remote cloning device, they see you walking back to car, set receiver to search for a locally transmitted signal, you then push your remote to open door and “BINGO” they have now cloned your remote.
Wait for you to go back in, open the motor and away they go..

now as far as im concerned being a electric gate specialist, we should be the only people to legally have one of these clever box of tricks, but it seems you can go and get them from china now and get it sent to the uk, with no questions asked.

This is a big worry for me, and i thought i should share this with you all, so we can be mindful the next time we go shopping. Thumbs Up

England 2011 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Siberian Silver

I had this with my 7 series, which apparently is the most secure car on the market place.
The car was parked outside my house and someone managed to gain entry without a key supposedly. On first noticing that my ipods and cables and lipsticks?? had been taken (a pair of louboutin £900 shoes in passenger footwell left well alone) I rang the police and she assumed that I had left the car unlocked. However the car locks itself after 1 minutes anyway.
I made a few enquiries with my pal and knowing the chief of police had exactly the same suddenly everyone was interested.

It turned out the thief had used a scammer device which had read my codes when id used the remote, however they also had some trickery device as theyd plugged my car into the ECU to try and steal it. However it only got halfway through the download and managed to wipe all the internal memory before they ust have got disturbed.

I then got incited by BMW to have all the spare key code sections , I think there was 21 spare blocked off. This means that the only keys or codes that will ever work to open my car are the two keys I have. Unless it gets authorisation from Germany to overide.

I Loved that Lipstick.... It was my fav shade. Sad

It was a Bmw 335 who got done.
Ive explained that they can also scan your gate/garage remote to go one step further.

Please understand
the scanner will work from 318 MHz right through to 686 Mhz and there are far better ones out there.
Im not sure about rolling code transmitters though, so if your car has got a different code each time its activated you may not be caught.

My Brother bought a new D2 few years back and parked at Metro centre, did his shopping then returned to go home. Walking up to LR he pressed the fob, doors opened and he jumped in then noticed things he did not remember on dash and centre console. His key had opened another D2, same colour and he had not realised Shocked

He waited for owner and showed him then they both drove to nearest LR dealer for a chat. Think they swapped key/locks on one of them Rolling Eyes Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

I always use the button on the doors to lock and unlock my doors. Habbit really, as my keys are always tucked away in my pocket.

Thanks for the heads up though Paul. Thumbs Up

I had a 325i hard top convertible and it was parked next to a 3 series saloon in a car park. When I returned to my car I pressed the unlock button and held it down ( as that opened the roof from the key) as I waited for the roof to start, the 3 series next to me unlocked itself and wound down all four windows Shocked pretty bad I would say

First - using the button is still keyless.

Second - im sure there is an LR countermeasure now for this

Thirdly, I know they aren't steeling the car - doesn't valet mode lock the boot on the sport? if so why not just use that. Mike

The keyless transmitter range is only about 1m so they would need to be very close to clone assuming that is possible Wink

Valet mode does lock boot but complete waste of time with retractable boot cover - dog gaurd may help but guess they would still be able to drop seats but not having one unsure Confused Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Yes, but my point is keyless is still wireless - ok you not the other side of the car park, but then ive never used the buttons...there are other countermeasures.

Put some stuff in the boot and then try getting at it without the boot opening...its a real pain, even with the seats down Mike

I had a 4.2 LSE Range Rover in 1995 that had an alarm that was giving trouble so had a decent aftermarket alarm (Clifford) fitted and that had technology to prevent the code being copied. Each time you operated the alarm it changed to a new code, I would be surprised if things hadn't moved forward in nearly 20 years....mind you I suppose it is Land Rover we are talking about here Whistle MY16 AUTOBIOGRAPHY Indus silver with some toys

Unfortunately BMW owners are the ones still getting caught.
Some of my security conscious clients ask for rolling code system update on the gates we installed, this tends to help.
