Weird suspension

Hi all,

So I was having multiple errors showing all over the place, dashboard was lighting up like the proverbial Christmas tree. After some good advice from you guys it was off to get a new battery fitted, which immediately solved all of the fault issues and had three glorious weeks of fault free driving.

HOWEVER, just this week, the suspension fault has begun (again) to show up on the screen, usually around 2-3 minutes after starting to drive.
After turning the ignition off/on it clears the fault for a little while and then reappears again.
This morning, after starting the car, I raised the car to its full height and then lowered it to its lowest, then back to normal height began to drive....... There was no fault showing at all for the entire journey ???

So.... Is it the compressor on the way out ? Or does it sound like some other type of issue, the car is still raising and lowering normally, just cannot get my head around this one.

Hope to hear your thoughts soon....

I have not had the car looked at yet, so cannot advise on the fault code showing..... Just thought it really weird that it would throw the fault up yet there is actually nothing wrong if you turn off/on again...

Don't want to go and spend £750 on a new compressor if it is actually something less serious

It's the usual yellow light with an icon of a car with arrows pointing across the roof as if indicating side to side movement. 2005 Rang Rover Supercharged

Have you checked the dynamic response reservoir? You might have a leak somewhere and this is indicating low fluid levels. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I have no idea what that is,where it is or what it does !!!! so i guess the easy answer is no i have not checked that..... low fluid levels ??? i thought the suspension was only operated via air bags on the suspension arms... or am i totally being a muppett here ? 2005 Rang Rover Supercharged

I think that the Supercharged version has always had a dynamic anti-roll bar system (later standard on versions such as the TDV8). This uses power steering fluid in adjustable anti roll bars to allow the vehicle to resist roll on tarmac but still have good articulation off road. The reservoir is at the front of the engine bay on the driver's side (RHD) and has a yellow cap.

I find it easiest to check the fluid level by shining a small torch across it from one side and seeing the level on the other side as a shadow line.

The anti roll bar actuators can leak. If it's a simple pipe leak then it can be fixed. If it's the actuator itself leaking then it's a new anti roll bar and a big (£1200) bill.

The other thing to check is silly stuff like blown brake bulbs. Look in the owner's manual and see which fuse relates to the dynamic response system (it'll have the same logo as the warning light). Make sure it's ok too.

If a new battery made the error go away, I'd also check that the alternator is ok. Any decent garage should be able to check this. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I had a similar issue with my previous car. The dealer (and I guess an independent) can do a leak test on the suspension system to help identify it. My dealer had to do this twice Rolling Eyes we then established it was a sensor with a dodgy connection. The mechanic was able to wiggle the sensor with the car in off road to recreate the issue. Hopefully someone more technical can show you how.
I traded the car in before getting this fixed so can't confirm this resolved it Embarassed for me it was the final straw on that car.

For into I had already had my compressor replaced when this happened.

I think i may be at the same point with my Range Rover, I am going to put it into the garage next week and see what they pull up, think it may be time to say goodbye to the Land Rover brand and go back to something Reliable.......

I have the same thing on mine. Had it serviced the other day and Land Rover said it needs a new compressor for £750. But because I had it serviced 13 months after the last service the warranty company say my cover is void. I've sent lots of angry letters, see where that gets me.

My fault code is: dtc c1a20

Oh and hello everyone

Ok,

I am at a total loss now......

Started the car up two days ago, pulled off the drive, drove to work...... Perfect !
Came back to the car some 6 hrs later, started the car, drove for nearly an hour...... Perfect !

Same again yesterday, all day driving around, lots of stopping, starting, suspension up/down while going into and out of multi storey car parks, not one single fault.

I give up.

One day i have a car litterally falling to pieces before my very eyes, with multiple failures springing up every few seconds on the dashboard.... the next all is good and running like a bloody dream.

I need a holiday to get over the stress this car has/is causing, thank god i did not pay out for the new compressor as i was convinced it was a new one needed.

Any ideas Guys ?????? 2005 Rang Rover Supercharged

Any chance it could be moisture (either in connectors or suspension air system) freezing at low temperature. Was it particularly cold on the day you had the Christmas tree display?
