Engine Management light after using LPG for the first time..

Greetings guys and girls. This is my first post and I would have preferred it to be all good news but unfortunately it's not.

I purchased my RRS from an independent some 8 months ago and to say they have terrible aftercare would be an understatement.

Within weeks of ownership the hand break light stayed lit after switching off. Then the amber suspension light a week later followed by a coolant warning. Not to pleased at this point but thought its a second hand car so these things can happen, took it back to the dealer and they had the car on and off for over a month.

In the end they replaced the front left suspension and the compressor. Updated the software which conflicted with the TV/DVD and stereo system so they sent the head unit to a place in Scotland???? And when it was returned the only way they could get the radio/CD to work was to rip out the hands free loom. So, after spending weeks arguing with the dealer and having to payout a load of cash the RRS was returned but the TV icon is now missing from the menu and I have no hands free telephone. To top it all off the suspension warning light still comes on intermittently.

It should be noted that the TV/DVD system is not factory fitted. It has two Alpine screens installed in the head rests (by a previous owner) and a 6 stack DVD holder in the cubby hole on the right hand side of the boot. It worked like a charm before these Censored got there hands on it.

Now the latest.....the RRS is also fitted with a BRC LPG system. My MOT is due in a couple of weeks so I thought I would fill up both the petrol & LPG tanks and use them over the weekend. The car runs perfectly smooth in LPG mode but after 50 odd miles the engine warning light illuminated. I immediately switched back to petrol but it was to late. The car is still running like a dream with plenty of acceleration etc so it's all very odd. Big Cry

I love my RRS even though we have had a bad start to our relationship. My wife now calls it Marmite because I love it one day and hate it the next.

I will be calling my local Land Rover service department tomorrow to book her in but thought I would post my experience so far.

Anyway here's to happy motoring (with no warning lights) in the not to distant future.

Even with all the problems I have had I will still buy another (newer version) when my funds allow. Crazy I know but I went from a TVR to the RRS so I'm a glutton for punishment. Very Happy

Hopefully things will get better. Just make sure you have no warning lights illuminated on MOT day, as this is now an istant fail. Whistle

All fixed and nothing to major. Great experience with Land Rover main dealer. I can not fault there servicing team.

Will get the LPG serviced now and start enjoying the RRS again.

Hi whiplash,

Had similar issues when I had an LPG system on my V8 Vogue, The engine management light is likely due to the fuel/Air mix being too light when on LPG. It can be a little difficult to get right so you still get a small return on the LPG but the engine management light can be reset with a code reader fairly easily. A half decent LPG fitter should be able to sort it out in a couple of hours after a system service.

good luck gone but not forgotten 2003 4.4 RR Vogue
