Scratch and Chip Insruance

Ive long been a convert of GAP and tyre insurance (after having to buy a new tyre 1 day before I sold the car!) but ive recently been toying with Scratch, Chip and Dent insurance.

Obviously there are some reasonable limits to number of claims sizes etc, but it seems reasonable in terms of cover and the company ive used for years.

It seems you can get some scratches for example and its £20 done, but it aways seems like £££ of pounds when people are talking on here, well in excess of 2 years cover.

So the question is the cover general worth it (including from a principle of not wanting/having to spend lots if some toe-rag keys the car), what are peoples views Mike

To be honest i wasn’t aware you could get scratch and Chip insurance.

I think its a good idea, but i will reserve judgement until i have seen the extra costs myself, I also don’t like the idea of the insurance company using dent master type fix, as im not convinced the finish is of the same quality as the original paint, so i would want a proper paint prep and finish for my money.

There is a limitation over what they class as one claim in respect to its size.

They do just use a chip company to do the repair so don't expect a full panel painting and curing in oven.

I cant say ive poured over the policy documents, but The policy I was looking at
Covers for minor body damage – e.g. light scuffs, scratches, dents, paint chips. See policy terms for exclusions
6 claims allowed, 3 allowed every 12 months
Paint chips which are less than 150mm in diameter
Dents not exceeding 150mm in diameter
Scratches less than 150mm in length
Paint scuffs less than 150mm in diameter

So maybe the scratch cover is as much as I was thinking, eg someone keying you car?

On a plus its only £150 for the period on the down side - its £150 for the period Laughing

Actually the smart repair comment is a good one, not noticed that and roof and bonnet are not covered (probably for that reason) Confused starting to not look as good Confused Mike

My sister had it thrown in as part of buying her car, she has claimed on the policy with no problems but the damaged fit the limitations as above.

Smart repairs arnt that expensive so you must make sure you claim as much as you can to make the most of the policy if you buy it.

Just for some info guys, I have been to chipsaway thinking about taking on a franchise. they will not do bonnets or roofs, due to the fact that is very difficult to get the halogen heaters over the bonnet and roof.
