Headlights set too high

Anyone else getting flashed repeatedly by oncoming traffic assuming you've got your headlights on main beam? Mine seem to be set quite high. Is there an easy way to adjust them or is it a return to dealer job?

Mine are too high aswell, at first I though they were no where near as good on main beam as the old HST, then when I drove under trees, could see the main spots shining way to high, not got brave enough to turn the adjuster screws myself and not worth a trip to dealer just for that... 5.0 Ltr Superchrged RRS2, Chile Red, Sideways out of junctions!

United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Santorini Black

The first time I drove mine in the dark, the car in front kept flashing its hazard warning and fog lamps at me. A few seconds of main beam put a stop to that.

I have Xenons so that are self-levelling. I think the issue was that the lights are so high off the ground that when following a lesser vehicle at a slower speed the lights can shine straight at the leading car's rear view mirror even when they are dipped. ---------------------------

I must admit I do not think that the headlights are as good as the ones on the RRS MY12 that I traded in.......

I traded in an Audi Q5 for my RRS. The Audi also had Xenons, but the lighting on the RRS is far superior to the Audi.

I never realised how much I disliked that Audi until I got the Sport. Very Happy ---------------------------

I have also had people flash me when on dipped beam but when you look at the cut off in pitch darkness with the vehicle on level ground it seems reasonably OK.

I put it down to a combination of the high mounting of the lights, the tip up/down of the air suspension and the self levelling headlamps themselves interacting to keep the dip cut off too high for too long. I'm not sure that adjusting will help. Also the sideways splash of the lamps on dip is quite bad (non-adaptive lights). Just look at the inside of the car coming the other way as it passes.

I agree about main beam. Mine are set high and slightly leftwards. Not worth taking in specially to adjust though. Regards

Malcolm

Feel sorry for oncoming drivers, I can't stand it getting dazzled. Might have to dish out sunglasses to other drivers...

Ditto to the OP. I keep getting flashed and I have the impression that they are set to high. A tweak downwards might improve things, but as someone else mentioned I thought that they were self levelling, although they don't go though the dance that the X5 did when you turn them on.

As much as I love the new RRS the headlights are not a patch on my old X5. The range that they used to give on full beam was astonishing.

I'm heading to France in a few days and am still amazed that "the beam pattern does not need adjusting for driving on the other side of the road". (Yes, I know HBA needs doing though). We shall see how many times I get flashed... 2014 MY RRS HSE Dynamic

I got back a week or so ago having driven to Switzerland and can report that pretty much every other oncoming driver flashes furiously!!

The beam pattern most certainly dazzles traffic to the left which is completely at odds with what the manual says. Not much I could do whilst there but all I'd say is be prepared for several irate oncoming cars…. or just drive in the day!

Mine were also set far too high - main beam lighting the tops of trees, embarrassing passing dazzled cars on the motorway, being 'given the finger' by one and flashed at continuously by oncoming traffic.

Resolved by a visit to Hunters in Kings Lynn. No more flashing, should have been a quick pitstop but 3 software updates required, took 2 hours Shocked

V poor for the factory to send out new cars in this state, hatred for these vehicles is already enough without the dazzling headlights. Do they set them with the suspension in access mode?

P.S. No auto levelling evident on mine (non adaptive)

@Aintree,

When did you take delivery of your car? I wonder if I should take mine (4th December) in for the update.

I also can't see any evidence of auto levelling but it may be highly damped (which causes this problem). Regards

Malcolm

What were the updates?! Mine was delivered mid October and not noticed any issues - apart from the high headlights when on continent. Sounds like I might need to speak to dealer if there's software updates required as I assume unless they're mandatory safety ones they won;t recall the car.
