2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Santorini Black
Decided to ditch my RRS

Oh well after 2 enjoyable years of RRS TDV8 ownership I have decided to take a new venture. Im now the proud owner of a new BMW 535d M Sport Very Happy (313 BHP, heads up display, lowered suspension, electric remote controlled tow bar, sat nav, remote assist, heated steering wheel, media hard drive, electric window blinds etc etc etc).... but Censored in snow !!!

Prior to Christmas I needed an MOT and at 4.5yrs old suspected I wouldn't need much doing. ...... It failed!!!

It needed two new lower swing arms, new rubbers, new track rod end joints and two new tyres. £1,800 quid later and an advisory note on the MOT that the rear break pipe was showing signs of corrosion (£1,500 from Hatfields to fix), and seeping anti roll bar seals that would need a new anti roll bar due to it all being one unit, (another £1,400 from Hatfields).

So with MOT pass certificate in hand I drove to BMW and hacked it in.

How can a car, regarded as the best 4x4 in the world, need so much as a result of tarmac off roading along the streets of the UK???? Censored I thought,

Anyway if anyone sees my car for sale beware.

This forum has been superb and I wish you all well and hope your RRS is better than mine.

Why spend £1800 on an MOT and then part exchange it?!

BMW would have more than likely offered you the same money without a test.

What type of warranty cover did you have on your RRS?

I had my rear brake pipes done a few months ago for £220.

Anyway good luck with the new motor. Thumbs Up 2014 L405 SDV8 RR Autobiography Cool

Lets see how long you last in the BMW!!
already sick of those silly cheap plastic door sills and other plastic bits?
BMW repair bills can get insane steap.
don't you have the twin turbo engine? two turbos in one manifold and more likely to fail than one of the turbos of the TDV8.

back to your RRS. yes the lower suspension arms can be a fail for MOT but they are not expensive to replace.

the ARBs should not be a fail point for the MOT as they don't affect safety. they could just spoil your ride but if you never noticed. then it is unlickely that the whole unit needed replacement. just the 20 quite bushes.

Good luck with the Beemer - shame about the RRS but MOT fail and £1800 at 4.5 years is Censored

SWMBO had a FL1 Freestyle until it reached 5 years old - paid £10k in 2009 (2 years old) and passed MOT every year then got £7k px in 2012 after 3 years ownership - if only I could say anything similar about RRS ownership Big Cry Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

I did.....had a 3 series, before that a 5 series......both lovely cars and reliable as could be.....just no sense of occasion when driving them. The RRS is the most enjoyable car I have driven, up until now I have had no problems.....It's early days though...but I am happy meantime and glad I bought it. 2010 RRS TDV6 3.0 Autobiography - Stornoway Grey

I totally agree , i have been fortunate enough to own all sorts of bmws and lots of mercs but none of them give me the feeling i get from driving range rovers and thats why i always come back to them. Of course i fully accept not all of us feel the same way and its nice to have a change sometimes.
