Buying 2006 SC what to look for

Hi all.

My names Dan and I'm looking forward to joining the forum community. Hopefully I can learn enough to help some of the people who join in the future.

I'm looking at buying a 2006 Supercharged with 109k on the clock. Its a lovely car with a good history and a well serviced BRC Genius LPG conversion.

It has a couple of choice upgrades too. Rear DVD's, sunroof and Stormer 22s

I'm going to look at it again tomorrow morning and maybe buying it there and then. With such a complicated machine what should I look at and check over?

Any and all recommendations appreciated?
Dan

Hi Dan- welcome to the forum. There's a new buyers guide on here somewhere with some great stuff on it, well worth a look through.
Yours should have had the timing belts replaced as that should happen at 7 years or 105000 miles, both of which your car has done. FCheck for suspension Knocks and bangs, make sure everything electrical works, check for leaks from the sunroof, check the 22'wheels are not rip off ones and aren't cracked, check both parts of the tailgate work, be wary of the LPG conversion and make sure it was properly done, make sure the air suspension raises and lowers quickly with no nasty noises, that's all I can think of!
Good luck
Neil

Thanks for the quick reply Bladeboy.

I've found the buyers guide and printing it now.... I'll add your notes too it too.

Apparently the petrols have a timing chain rather than a belt so nothing to replace but please correct me if I'm wrong.

Welcome to the forum Thumbs Up Thankfully you wont find many moans about the Petrol RRS on here. The main problems are with generic - shared components with the diesel version - compressors etc. The petrol is chain driven so no belt changes needed Very Happy
Landrover don`t do a 22 rim so treat all alloys this size with caution. I had stormers but ended up swapping due to cracks - get under the car & check these out - they split on the inside - I did have 30 profile tyres so this may have added to the problem.
The rest is all good news - fast - sounds great & drives like a dream Whistle good luck Thumbs Up

Hope you collect points for fuel - they soon add up Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter 16MY Estoril Blue SVR.............

Its not often I'm right Bladeboy.... I'll make a note of the date Smile

Hopefully with the LPG we should get diesel levels of economy Peachy but essentially your saying the 4.2 is pretty much bullet proof and if I go by the diesel buyers guide I should cover the bases?

Interestingly the diesel buyers guide looks very thorough and well written. I should be very well armed!

I had a quick look at stormer wheels and thought it looked like they only come in 20" variant.... which leaves me a little worried about the 22's. The dealer though did say if I really hate them he came swap them with one of the other cars. He has 5 or 6. Im weary of knock off wheels as they're never made to the same standard

I have read the same and also some people saying that its ok if you use the better conversions. This one had a BRC Genius installed about 40k miles ago so HOPEFULLY if something was going to go wrong it would have done already

He has a set of supercharged alloys on a Disco 4 he is prepared to swap.

They look the same as this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/single-20-Land-R...2586edbeaa

and have brand new Hancook tyres.

Would you be inclined to swap back to stocks from the 22's??

Ive been dealing with the owner and he seems like a stand up guy with a good attitude.

They've been trading for 26 years and have some beautiful stock

When I asked what the autobiography styling changes consisted of he told me the previous owner had that done along with the 22s and tyres at a cost of about 5k when he bought the car from Benz Bavarian

It mostly looks good except for those mirror covers and to be honest I think I prefer the a and d pillars black to give you that floating roof look but otherwise I like the car. We're going up to drive it on Saturday and hopefully finalise a deal
