Despite what is being said about the 60 mph on the M1 being for eco reasons, and 55 being the optimum speed.
I get best fuel averages at 75-80mph. (with or without cruise control)

Around 30mpg.

I haven't driven one yet but the stated 0-60 time of 11.9 seconds for the 2.7 was what put me off. I know thats not the whole picture but I am used to quick cars and dont want to feel like Im having to rag the guts out of it to get it going.

Real World Fuel Consumption

My vehicle only every does short trips with lots of start stop driving averaging less than 30km/h.

On the freeway (level road) at 100km/h the fuel consumption indicator will be around 7l/100km (33MPG).

Stop start driving will always increase fuel consumption considerably especialy for a vehicle as heavy as a RRS.

I brought a 4.2 sc HST a few months ago, it averages 13.6,

its a slightly false economy as if i wanted a 3.6 diesel HST i would to have had to fork out about another 3/4k to afford one.

i only do about 6k a year mileage tops so for a sc is the logical choice, plus im a petrol head...... lol

looking back, if i didnt want a HST then based on how hard i drive my sc i would have opted for a 2.7 as dont believe you really need all the power of an sc in the real world, i mean its flipping quick when you go for it, and i also own an vw R32 to compare to..

Hi,

Same as LOCUST, I only do approx 6,000 miles/year so I went for a SC just last month!!

It is AMAZING! The sound, the growl, the power, the performance, the kit!! By going for a diesel I'd have only made a small saving in fuel over the year, so it was actually a no-brainer!!

Do your sums...

S

Real World Fuel Consumption

My Honda Civic with an LEV petrol engine does 9l/100km in the same driving situation compared to my TDV8 doing 17l/100km. The Civic weighs half as much so 17l/100km is OK for the RRS.

On my first Discovery a 96 V8 Auto I complained to Landrover about its fuel consuption which on occasions would get down to 9MPG for a tank full (similar driving to now). They did a test and got 13MPG and this was OK.

I only do 4-5000km per year so fuel consumption is irrelevant compared to vehicle depreciation.

The other thing I forgot to add was:
1) The TDV8 at low RPM and low speed (city traffic) has very bad driveability compared to a petrol engined variant.
2) The TDV8 loses lots of power at higher ambient temperatures. (not a problem in the UK).
3) The TDV8 blows lots of black smoke like all diesels when you plant it. (embarrasing).

There might be something wrong with your TDV8. Neutral

I don't have any 'driveability' problems in city traffic and I have NEVER seen black smoke from the exhausts on WOT or any other conditions. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

My TDV8 has similar figures to all the others on here, was getting 27/28 on a run over the summer, now after a map and with winter cold damp atmosphere I have just done a 'need to make up some time' run from Southampton to Cornwall at 22.1. Honestly not great on that count BUT I had a great drive down when on the twisty bits and overtaking is effortless. Drives like a much smaller car and will make you smile. Smile

Ps. Have to say I don't get any black smoke or lumpy problems, smooth power delivery all the time. TDV8 Java Black, Overfinch 22s
