Sat nav screen dimming and flickering...

Hey guys!

Has anyone suffered this on their RRS and can offer any pearls of wisdom?

For a little while now, the screen on my sat nav floats from being bright to being dimmer.
Like a numpty, I put it down to how bright it is outside the car like either day or night.
Today at night, it was dim but had a noticeable slight flicker like it was going from bright to dim.
Anyone had this?
Is it a simple fuse fix or is my big worry confirmed that the sat nav is on it's way out?

Thanks in advance,

Gaz.

Yep

Got the very same issue myself, only this is one of about six other major faults that have all appeared at the same time.
So far I have
1. HDC fault
2. Transmission failure
3. Suspension failure ( normal ride height only available)
4. Rear screen demist no longer working
5. Suspension failing to raise
6. Extreme vibration throughout vehicle when driven at 50mph or above...

After two years of pure driving heaven, I now have a vehicle that has overnight turned into a complete nightmare and I cannot begin to imagine how much this is all going to cost to get fixed.
Have been a totally committed fan of the RRS since buying this car, but must admit I am seriously considering changing this very soon for something that will not fall of the proverbial reliability cliff.

Lord I'm sorry to hear that Jet.
Maybe try and Google your nearest Landy/Rangey specialist rather than a main stealer?
Hopefully the suspension heights might be something simple.

All the best...

Hi Gaz,

Only have one independent garage near me and they are worse than hopeless. Car went in to them six months ago with a banging front end suspension ( pot hole city ) they quoted me £450 to replace the lower arms, when I collected the car the next day the bill came to £850!!!!
Apparently they got the make and model wrong on the initial quote, so really think it may have to be a main dealer issue which I am absolutely dreading.

I cannot get my head around how a car can just overnight develop so many major faults all at once, the really strange thing is it still drives really well, apart from when I go over 50 then I get this terrible vibration......

2014 is starting on a very very expensive note !

I would agree with trying a new battery- I had all that HDC nonsense just before my battery went. Could end been a very cheap fix!

Jb, it might be worth getting your wheels balanced and see if that rectifies the problem, another cheap fix. (Hopefully) Thumbs Up

Back on topic.....looks like the sat nav flickering is common and many people have it.
Seems there is a light sensor under the rev counter where the flashing led is.
When perfectly bright or perfectly dark, the light sensor that controls the sat nav brightness is okay.
It's not perfect however!
If light levels in the cockpit fluctuate, it can cause it to flicker as it can't decide to go bright or dim!

Hi Ady,

Happy new year, the car had a full 4 wheel balance and alignment done only a couple of weeks ago, that was the first thing I thought of.
Am at a total loss with this car at the moment, have contacted an independent garage to get an inspection done and see what can be done.
