Help needed asap....car sitting in a shop for 2 months !!!

Guys. I had a 4.2 supercharged 2005. One day i was in a stop-n-go traffic and notice stem coming from the bonnet and after 5 mins of " gentle " driving to a spot to park the car i notice it is leaking coolant. So callup a tow trunk and tow in back to a garage i know. That's happened last month.

So at first my mechanic told me he spotted 2 coolant - heater hoses that is leaking which i order and had it installed. Everything seems ok and the mechanic return the car for me which after 10mins of driving, coolant leaking all over the place again. So got tow back, and had them look at it again. This time they told me a outlet area on the radiator housing has cracked and causing the coolant to leak, fine than new radiator in. I told them to tested it before handing it over to me this time but again after 2 days, got a call from my mechanic saying that the car still over-heat,they now say my viscous fan that cool the radiator is not spinning and suspect the motor for the fan has died. So again new fan w/motor replaced,i thought this time everything should be fine. But again, installed the fan, tested it for a few times and the car over-heated again,so they're now saying something is not telling the fan to spin,i think both low and high speed is not working aswell or 99% of time both hi and lo will not come on,maybe very once in awhile, the high speed fan will turn on. (( Even the temp gauge close to redline, the high-speed won't turn on ). BTW,3 other coolant hose has replaced during this process,i'm not really suspecting either the mechanic don't know how to fix or check on this car and just told me to keep replacing parts which he THINK is not working or .......

Any idea guys ?? Had the car dropped off with them close to 2 months now and spent quite alot of money on replacing parts which i think some are not need. So any idea what i should ask them to look for ?? They run a scan and had a code : P0480 fan 1 control circult.

Right now the car drives fine, engine power,A/C and everything works. Mechanic can took it out for a test drive for 30mins still nothing happens, than all of the sudden the temp gauge climbs to the redline again. The fan is not running...maybe 1 time out of 10. So i'm planning to replace the coolant temp sensor aswell but another direction ?? And where is the fan control unit or motor's fuse and relay located at ?? Big Cry

Hi

I had a viscous fan fault....in an 05 RRS.
- it's a common fault IMHO.

But the issue was not that it wouldn't spin. In fact, when improperly connected, it spins all the time, directly proportional to engine revs.

I replaced the fan; and it worked at startup and when the engine was hot.

My guy is that the replacement fan is broken or more likely, bit connected properly. I did read a thread on this website about fans acting abnormally if connected incorrectly. Ie plugged in upside down. Some were connected incorrectly at the factory according to one post.

I assume all the basic checks around blockages, working water pump etc etc has been actually checked.

One way to see if the fan is the problem would be to simulate the fan by blowing air over the radiator with an external fan (like driving or they do when remapping) Mike

As it's a supercharged it would be worth while checking the supercharger coolant pump. Front right in engine bay. These were wired back to front from the factory. I don't think it's your problem but it needs to be done at some point.
