Got One! ! RRS !! ! 2005 or 2010

Hi,

looking for a RRS and a have narrowed down my choices ..... honest...

either

a 2005/55 prefer Stornoway (not really wanting Black or White!) with black leather, HSE, zebrano trim would be nice,
2 keys, 19" wheels and if they have 255x55 GG's or ATR's Whistle then all the better,
twin towing elecs, a full size spare,
don't mind the miles but must have good history for the normal stuff, belts done, alternator, battery, suspension arms and arb bushes done, compressor ect.
If it had a BAS unit and a webasto timer as well Mr. Green
Don't really want the fridge and sunroof.
Steering wheel and drivers seat in good condition.
Still got a chance of doing some laning if I get one of these Whistle

Or.

Because I have just seen a 2010 3.0 SE in green with 80k at a Volvo main dealer on autotrader did not think they were down to £23k yet so phoned about it yesterday afternoon and got the details, then phoned this morning to arrange to view/test drive..... and.... someone turned up yesterday and bought it Big Cry

so a 2010 Stornoway or dark colour (not black) black leather or Ivory leather.
19" wheels again with full size spare and twin towing elecs.
if its an SE, the power fold mirrors and memory seats would be nice but not sure if they could be added options?
maybe some warranty to transfer over as well.
think I will have to be very selective with any laning though

and I have come to realise that I like to have a look at a car a couple of times before buying so hopefully not hundreds of miles away Rolling Eyes
No rush to buy been looking recently to narrow down my options and see what turns up, not got to sell anything first although my modified D2 will be going after I have RRS

Please drop a PM if you having something Thumbs Up Porsche Cayenne 2022

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black

There is like a what.... £8-10k difference between those two [hypothetical] cars?

Its a lot of money for just a five year gap buying a later one just for the year on the log book to be honest. I looked at the 05/10 range and studied prices and specs a while back.

I think better to be flexible between those two years, and rely more on mileage and condition.

Always you may compromise on something when you find a car that feels and drives right. So set nothing minor [like 2 keys or this or that wheels] in stone. Fixing/upgrading the small stuff can be done for the money you will save on road tax alone over a couple of years if you happen to buy an earlier one.

History isn't always meticulously documented (if cam belts were done by a guy on the forum for example), but overall condition and keeper history can sometimes tell you more. Mine had one owner and minimal stamps. Only because it came from somewhere rural and they were not inclined to pay dealer prices for anything (I know because I called them up). Yet they still serviced it and did stuff. I had the anti roll bar bushes and a few other small jobs done.

Were I buying one today (or indeed my next one when the time comes), I would be very inclined to buy one from an active forum member here. Many blokes here have had all the big stuff done and had access to the invaluable resource that is the forum, its participants and service providers. In that case, stamps in a book [or lack of] don't mean very much, but can always be done later somehow [cough, cough] if that is important to you for future resale.

I suppose what I am saying is buy a car on what it actually is rather than what it is documented to be. The two are not always the same thing.

thanks BKHK

I have spent more time on the D3 site as had a 57 SE and thought that Bonatti was a D3 colour and Stornoway the RRS

Must type quicker Rolling Eyes

yes thanks Stuart, I meant by the good history, receipts for work done to prove stuff rather than just stamps in the book

like to buy from a forum member as they have a better knowledge of the car and prefer a car that's in use to one that is "parked up" at a dealers the D3 I had, had been stood for about 6 weeks between being traded in and bought.

it is my sort of ideal spec as things like the spare key are getting on for £200 and it all then adds to the cost.

Know what you mean about when a car "feels right"

Not sure I agree with Stuart's train of thought here. The difference between the 05 and 10 plates is not mearly a facelift, they are IMHO two very different models.
I keep banging on about this, but I would have a newer SE over an older HSE any day, the only thing missing in standard spec in the SE is a fridge cubby box and adaptive cruise control. Also, with the SE and the newer toy laden HSE, I am sure the SE is more reliable , as there are less toys to go wrong.
Interesting thing as well is that when new there was a difference in price of £7-8k, I have asked around a few dealers in the last year, and trade in seems to be only £3-4k less than if I was parting an HSE

Cheers

Hi Codfather,

know what you mean about different models, been out in a 2010 HSE and it was very nice Smile seems a much stronger engine, especially setting off in sand mode Whistle
(note to self.. don't take up Pauls offer of the TDV8 Mr. Green )
but sure the SE would suit me fine Thumbs Up and a chat with a dealers confirmed £3k less over a HSE.
spoke to the dealer in Ayr today about a HSE but still toooooo much and a pvt sale just missed a lot nearer Big Cry

but so much for the 55 plate that sounded good Evil or Very Mad (not a forum member) 220 mile round trip Rolling Eyes
it only needed.......front antiroll bar bushes, a compressor, front brake discs, cruise did not work or the satnav needed a service (I knew that one beforehand) fog light cracked and a few scuffs on the bodywork needing some paint Big Cry he thought it was all fine.

No one from the forum yet, before I know it March will be here and hopefully more choices.

United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HST Stornoway Grey

Had the same trouble when i was looking. Looked at loads before going for my HST. Went to view a black 56 plate HSE up in bradford Shocked . Could smell the diesel as i walked up the drive, no engine cover fitted and oil literally dripping from everywhere. Inside was even worse, cream leather looked as though they had been touched up with dulux, halfords radio fitted in a faceplate in the dash Big Cry and the steering wheel couldn't have been any stickier if it had been made from toffee!!! Guy wanted £17k for it and dropped to 15 when i said i wasn't bothered. Told him that if he got 8k for it he would be doing well Rolling Eyes

Absolute turd! By that point i was almost giving up on the idea of a RRS and started looking at Q7s Thud
Paul

ps. the offer still stands, if you want a go in my TDV8 give me a shout Mr. Green Its not for sale though Cool Current fleet
