England 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Sumatra Black
BMW i-Drive

IF this has been covered in another topic, please excuse me as i coudlnt find it.

My satnav system needs updating as its still the standard 57 system, i looked at Land Rover who wanted around £160 for the DVD. i found a lesser website that wanted £60 for the same DVD, but one of the pilots i was chatting to at work reckons his freind has successfully installed the BMW i-Drive system into his RRS making use of the knob that selects the off road programmes.

Is this correct? Am i being lied to? lol can anyone please shed any light on this.

thanks in advance Thumbs Up

Wouldn't have thought that would be possible, and even if it was surely you would have to lose all the off road functions if you used the knob for something else.

Why buy a range rover and turn it into a bmw? Seems a bit backwards to me Rolling Eyes

Your not wrong man, but i think the reason was all the sat nav was 3D, all the seat adjustments etc was null and void

Never trust a Pilot.....(joking) The BMW i Drive system is very good but I would have thought that its RR for RRS and BMW for BMWs? I would be very wary of mixing the two. Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6

The fitted sat nav is frankly not up to much even if you have the most recent DVD.

The problems with the fitted sat nav are that it uses maps optimised for the US market, chooses poor routes, is too slow and shouty woman drives you mad.

IMHO the best value sat nav app is the latest version of CoPilot which was released just a couple of weeks ago. Costs about £20 or is free with voice guidance but after 30 days the VG stops working unless you buy the app. It is much much faster than Land Rover's useless effort (almost instant in fact) and has numerous configurable options which are intuitive to use (unlike the LR some of which which you will find impenetrable even if you read the manual).

In fact it is so good that TomTom (previously the best sat nav app) have been forced to do a promotion dropping their price by 30% just to compete 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

I use Copilot on my Nexus phone. Works very well and can be configured with various extras should you wish. Can also be used away from the vehicle of course. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
