Dirty Weekend without the RRS

Mudalloverit and I took part in one of the occassional offroading weekends that are run by a mutual friend of ours in the Argyll Forest. Many of you may not be aware of the legal situation with offroading in Scotland - basically you cannot just go offroad where-ever you want so it is s case of joining a club and going on a pay and play day or knowing a landowner who doesn't mind a fleet of 4WD vehicles churning up their land. There are no Green Lanes as such and where we were this weekend is the nearest equivalent. We did have the permission of the landowner as well!
I have been uploading video to Photobucket, but it is a slow process and vids are limited to 100mb/3minutes - it takes almost an hour to upload that even at broadband speeds so this list will grow over the next few days, but here are some to start you off.
BTW I don't use my RRS for these events, you just have to see some of the ruts and overhanging trees to give you some idea of the damage that would be done to it. Muddy and I both own TDi 300 Defenders as well as other cars for day to day more practical transport.

Looks like you had a great time Tim. You have to be a very brave/rich RRS owner to take one over that sort of route, although I'm sure it could cope.

X5, my RRS has been offroaded but not in that sort of stuff. I restrict my RRS offroading to places where there aren't any overhanging trees, large boulders sticking out into the tracks and no gorse bushes to pull off the paint! Gorse and brambles are about the worst things there are for body damage after big rocks!
I believe that every owner should take their ofroader into the dirt now and again otherwise there will be problems with the transfer box later on and usually that means lots of £££££££s!
Here is a video of a Rioja Red 90 and a Pajero in action - the Red Landy belongs to Mudalloverit.

Again, very impresive, I take it the video doesn't do justice to how steep that hill is?

Well, I could fib and say the hill was almost vertical Laughing Laughing but it wasn't but as you say the vid doesn't do justice to how steep it was, they never do. The really difficult one was in the other vid where we were in a stone quarry and when the Pajero came over it hung up................. what you cannot see is what was behind the hill he came over, which had about a 60 degree incline from a steep down slope through the trees. Great for testing wheel articulation and breakover points.
Here is another old Pajero on a different quarry that I didn't attempt, the slope you see it on would not have been a problem for 99% of the cars on the run............. it was the route off it that was the problem. The route down was over a flint surface with large slabs of it making it very slippery (and it was raining too) with a huge pile of boulders at the bottom to run into if things went wrong.................. that is too serious/ mad for most folks but this Pajero, a chopped Range Rover and a heavily modified Suzuki Santana did do it. All 3 drivers said that it was a "brown trousers" type descent and they would not do it again in a hurry!
