As of late I have been having horrendous problems with my RRS SC

Alternator
Starter
2 cats needing replaced
Suspension compressor going

And now I've had the following 2 problems

Last Sunday whilst driving the car came up with a transmission fault and went into F mode

Turned it on and off and it cleared (at this time the suspension amber light was on. Normal height only)

This transmission fault didn't happen again however As a result I had tranny oil and filter changed.

Just tonight on a short journey the engine revs started to fluctuate from approx 1500-1750-2000 at a constant speed

Ie I had foot with constant pressure on accessor but rev counter and engine was going up and down like crazy

I've a video of it but can't post it with iPad

Any ideas guys

I'm at end of my tether with this car now

& I thought I had it bad sorry to hear of your constant problems - had a similar fault - it was a cheap fix - a temp sensor in the coolant hose ( I've changed EAS compressor & battery & alternator ).
When they are good they are amazing when they are s--t - they are absolutely s--t.

Big time my problem is I've had very few opportunities past while to say it's anything apart from dung

Fluctuating revs can be a sign of torque converter on the way out but before jumping to that conclusion and bearing in mind the other suspension issues I'd start with having the fault codes read and check some of the usual suspects like brake light bulbs and brake light switch. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

But there are no codes showing mate

So you have plugged in a LR specific diagnostic fault code reader and there are no faults logged right? 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Was up at Indy specialist today they said its a transmission fault

Apparently there is some additive they can put in that can sort it out but if not it's a new gear box I'm afraid

What fault codes if any did they find that points to a gearbox fault?

The fluctuating revs can be a sign of a torque converter lock up clutch worn but there is usually vibration too. The torque converter is a separate unit incorporating the lock up clutch and can be changed. Just had mine changed for total cost of about £1,400 incl parts, ATF and labour. Perhaps try to find a really good transmission specialist in your area and get them to have a look at it?

The additive your indy referred to is probably a friction modifier similar to or the same as 'Dr Tranny' made by 'LUBEGUARD'. It's probably worth giving it a try. If the symptoms improve then it at least acts as a diagnostic suggesting the torque converter. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Yes it's Dr Tranny the additive they referred to

Hoping and praying that works r according to them it's a a new box

But if I could get away with torque Convertor it's the definite lesser of 2 evils

Were can u change the torque Convertor only? I've been told it can't be bought as a separate unit

Oh yes they can; because I've just had one fitted

Specialists with the right equipment can refurb the TC but because they can buy new ones for about £450 its not worth bothering it seems.

Also when the guy from the Indy specialist took it for a run today he said it was vibrating also. So u is prob right in respect to the TC

Who Paddi did yours for u r does any1 know any one in Northern Ireland that can do this ?

My RRS had an unusual problem and after much consulting of specialists none of them could be certain it was the TC but thought it was the most likely culprit. Took the chance of changing it and guess what...... its still the same .

You could always try a auto-box stall test.

i.e. Left foot hard on brake, select Drive and slowly increase the revs. The TC and gearbox should be able absorb the engine's power and stall (hold) it at stable revs.

Don't hold the revs for too long; 15-20 seconds.

It the revs continue to rise but the gearbox is quiet its probably the TC or if there are strange noises there's a chance the brake bands in the gearbox are shot or need adjusting.
