Personally i think facebook and twitter are pointless waste of life - i dont and never will use, for the life of me i cant see why people (id Censored ots) do.

very controversial ! life would go on without twitter and facebook (and instagram Smile) but they make life so much more "efficient". You obviously have a job/life where that type of interaction isn't necessary, but to label those of us that use these services as idiots is plain stupid !
Oh, by the way, this forum is also classified as "social media" and I'm scratching my head as to why you think this form of interaction with other people is different to the interaction provided by facebook and twitter ?

There are fundamental differences between a forum and facebook and twitter, not only the community element but also the purpose and reasons for participating

Unfortunately job wise, my service engage in it and i support its a necessary evil, but to say it adds any value in life or efficiencies is too far for me.

Ill stand by my id Censored ot branding - but maybe refine an clarify, refine by saying its probably a spectrum certainly people that say "we are away" look at my holiday snaps or "just had a great lunch" are in the camp as are those who that live their lives on it and through it.

I would say, the principle of Facebook and Twitter is more around an individual publishing or making out to be more than they are - whilst not worded brilliantly, to explain, would you really care if I had a great London photo or ate bread at 11?? would you really want my rants about the service or to share how great I am on X...i wouldnt want to know that about almost anyone - i expect most people wouldnt care equally about me.

Finally - there are those who's lifestyles on FB and Twitter are such they affect their employability and/or make families targets and give the children a lifetime digital footprint - i think that is a shame. Mike

I'd prefer live my life and enjoy my experiences rather than narrate it for others.

I'm sure I've seen the phrase "One life - Live it" somewhere recently. I'm in the shed, I'll be back in the real world in a minute.

I don't think anyone could argue that it adds "value to life", but for me it's just a bit of harmless fun! Personally my friends list is limited to people who are actually friends, not someone I met in a pub once or was at school with 30 years ago! (Which is why I only have about 60 or so friends instead of the 100s or 1000s that most folk rack up. I also don't post pictures up of anything that I wouldn't want made public, so I doubt there is anything worth a hacker nicking off it.
I always ignore these posts that go viral saying 'like if you agree with this' as I know they can glean your details and sell them to some solar panel sales co!
For now I enjoy it, each to their own, I say
Cheers

I am with MSE/MW on this one .... FB is a trivial waste of time, most people , in my experience that i know that use it and sites like it have precious little else to do and constantly pass their time looking at their smartphone, chuckling to themselves and having a quick thumb shuffle to ' post' another meaningless picture of some obscure , totally uninteresting thing that is happening at the time in their small space!!

I am not sure that ' idiots ' is an accurate or fair description for those that spend so much time on these Media modes but 'Peurile ' sounded quite explanatory to me .....not everyone has the sam,e mental capacity and it seems to have spread across all levels of intelligence..... so it gets back to the fact that they could actually be doing somethging else more productive or at least more responsible than this.......

Small wonder that the art of communication is dying ... how many groups of people do you see all sat together and everyone is contorting their thumbs while fumbling on the screen of the latest release SamsingFongwong67......

Im not a Technosaurus but there are limits i will not pass and these type of sites are right on it .....

OOOF, some sweeping generalisations there TST, its a bit like saying everyone from inverness s Censored gs sheep Laughing
so as a Facebook user i am puerile (notice how the U goes before the E) and mentally challanged, the first i can accept , who doesnt like toilet humour! but the second, hmmmm, i run a successfull business, finish work at lunchtime and spend the afternoon with my kids, whos the fool??

cheers

CF,
'
You could of course assume that I was generalising but I did say 'in my experience' so as to express my view on my own exposure to FB....

You will maybe have noted that I wrote 'spread across all levels of intelligence, therefore was not saying that it was common to one 'type' of person...housewife or businessman( successfully or not, full day or half day), I wasn't really referring to occupation rather than the time that people spend on the 'FB'.....

My point being that the ' art of communication aka talking' was dying out because of these type of media modes where users post all sorts of 'trivia' on their 'page' .......who wants to see all the minutiae of their lives? Usually other users who are doing the same thing !

It's just my personal rant on the modern habit, that's all.....everyone needs a whinge ... right?

As far as People from Inverness being ( S.... S......s) as you put it, not sure about that as I've neither witnessed it nor heard of any cases ( in my experience but maybe others have, I bow to your knowledge)
( note capital I in Inverness) ( challenged not challanged) isn't it good when it gets pedantic Wink

I blame my spelling errors on the iPad buttons being so small...!!

Cheers,

couldn't agree more with you there Dave (of course), some startling generalizations here that ALL fb users are childish and idiotic.

as with any form of social media, they are all prone to being mis-used. but if you put me in the same category as "them" ("them" being those people that even I can admit make fools of themselves) then I'll have to start labeling certain people as idiots ! Recently bought a 2007 RRS HSE TDV6 for a Pimp-My-Ride-Project.

Point taken, TST, I don't have the same experience as you, maybe because most of my friends are similar age/life experience as me, and tend not to post what they had for tea ,etc and I don't have my kids as friends (I have a seperate account for monitoring their behaviour)
Inverness being a diddy town where I come from is the reason it only has a wee "I" (joking!!) and yes I have a sticky keyboard too!
Cheers

Maybe there is a better word than idiots...but then there are exceptions to any rule, maybe even exemptions. Mike
