What hurts me is that it would not have been so difficult for Land Rover to offer an "acceptable" manually detachable tow bar instead of this horror named "Multi-Height Tow Bar"...

The price on this has dropped quite a bit indeed. I was quoted a price of around 2K euro on the MY14 model. It's now in the MY14.5 option list (factory installed) for 1320 euro

I guess LR have found that most RRS don't get used for towing so they've reduced the basic weight (and build cost) of the vehicle. It's just another example, along with the dropping of proper 4 wheel drive from the basic vehicle, that the RRS is becoming the vehicle people have always accused it of being - a Chelsea tractor.

The "big wheels and bling" brigade have won. In 20 years people will have forgotten how practical LRs once were... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

In the end I gave in...
I'm taking the electrically deployable factory fitted one. They have subtantially reduced the price below 1k.
For once that there is a drastic reduction in the price I'm not going to complaint...
