USB Expander/Splitter? Will it work?

I've only got 1 USB port in my glove box, but want to charge my iPhone and listen to my iPod... Would an expander/splitter work?

Has anyone tried it?

2005 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Java Black

These certainly work well from my 3.1amp 12v (cigarette)-usb adapter but I'm not sure if the existing USB will have the power to run devices and charge others.
