United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Orkney Grey

I thought the my14 D4 was just some new headlights and few other little changes such as stop-start? Or do you mean the long-awaited D4 replacement in (possibly) 2015? 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Excellent Mike Thumbs Up

My D2s were superb vehicles and I always felt they were the most capable LRs I ever owned Bow down

I was never keen on the D3 rear styling partly because I missed the wheel on the back so went FL2 next. I have been tempted by the D4 for a while but swmbo loves the RRS - I miss the space though Rolling Eyes

The D4 is a far more versatile vehicle Cool Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Still hoping for a S2 one day!

No the 2014 Discovery is late right now, it was due a few months ago. 2015 and 2016 are a little away yet. i have actually planned a head a little with the 2015 and 2016 vehicles

Its having a redesigned front, stop star, lower tax bracket, stupid name on the bonnet, i did have some other info on it and what its getting - most importantly its better spec'd than the HSE Dynamic sport!! so all the toys (more than i have on my current sport actually)

Still got to pick colours - but apparently production date and allocations are still a little off so ill have a slot, probably 3 weeks after they are officially announced and out December time Mike

Sounds like it's going to be a good bit of kit if it's that well spec'd! I look forward to hearing about it - at some point I guess my RRS will need replacing and the Disco might fit the bill nicely. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I felt it was the best step to replace the sport - i still have issues with the new sport and its price v lack of equipment, im not the only one i know! The next Discovery step is when it moves platforms - which will be interesting

I'm just waiting on some info on Wade sensing and blind spot monitoring etc (standard or option and the cost) - dealer didnt mention those options when we were taling. I'm having the surround cameras, mainly because on each sport ive wanted them and not bothered as it was in build.

I expect to be having the 4x4 with hi/low i did discuss this, but will need to double check, (why land rover would allow it to not have it is unknown but they should be ashamed) Exclamation

Not sure about Discovery on the bonnet though:

It does look better overall i think Mike

What - no low ratio on a disco Shocked

Its apparently the other way round, you can opt not to have low on the disco...ill see if i can find it

I cant find it - but found this on the discovery site written by martin:

Quote:
New optional single-speed transfer box

For 2014 models, buyers will be offered a choice of two four-wheel drive systems with the new single-speed transfer box or the carry-over twin-speed transfer box which offers high and low range for the most demanding off-road conditions.

The single-speed transfer box acknowledges that some customers do not need to fully exploit the Discovery’s off-road capabilities. Mechanically controlled, it weighs 18kg less than the two-speed box, features a Torsen differential and provides a 42/58 percent front-rear torque split.

I'm with muddy on that. No way I'd be buying one without H/L range. But then I suppose a lot of these vehicles are driven by yummy mummy types who wouldn't know or care what a transfer box is...

I can see the LR product range increasingly becoming more like the BMW X-series and the Audi Q-series. At least in the UK that is. They'll be increasingly sold without the necessary bits for off road use. I can see export versions (to the US, OZ etc.) being proper Land Rovers because there is more of a culture of using the things fully.

I've read that the single speed transfer box is limited in how much torque can be sent to the front or rear. In the 2-speed system each end can be given 100% of the grunt. In the single speed system it's limited to about 75% (not sure of the exact figure but it is a lot less than maximum). That will limit ability in extremis but then most people won't care anyway. I'd have thought that anyone doing serious towing would want the 2-speed because of the extra control and the ability to maximise available traction at either end.

Having just seen Mike's point about the rear diff - my next purchase will have that fitted. This will limit my options when buying second hand of course as most don't have it. But I think it would be useful. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Here you go.

Published on 12 Sep 2013

Land Rover announces the upgraded 2014 Discovery. The multi-award winning vehicle gets a new look, new badging, new V6 petrol engine, new fuel stretching technology, new single-speed drivetrain, improved audio systems and a new range of driver assistance, comfort and safety features to broaden its appeal even further. The core attributes are carried over into the 2014 models which will be available to order now with deliveries from mid-November.
"The hugely popular Discovery continues to move from strength to strength and the addition of the new 3.0 S/C petrol engine to the 2014 range underpins our commitment to delivering power with sustainability. As one of the world's most stylish, capable and versatile SUVs, the Discovery is the perfect vehicle for people who enjoy living an active lifestyle to the full," said Land Rover Global Brand Director, John Edwards.
For 2014, Discovery has been given a new 'face' and numerous detail exterior changes. A new front grille, new front bumper, new headlamp design, new daytime running lights with a distinctive LED signature, plus two new alloy wheel designs, further enhance the Discovery's appearance. To give vehicles a heightened level of distinction, the optional 'Black Design Pack' remains available for 2014 models, with revised detailing, plus 19-inch and 20-inch black alloy wheels.

In recognition of the Discovery's established identity, the refreshed exterior design for 2014 also incorporates a change of identity for the vehicle in many markets. For the first time ever, the name 'Discovery' name replaces 'Land Rover' on the bonnet and the number 4 will be removed from the tailgate leaving just the word 'Discovery.'
Engine badging moves from the tailgate to an ingot mounted on each of the front doors. This side badging will reflect the engine type and appear as either, 'SCV6,' 'SDV6' or 'TDV6' in markets where the lower-power diesel engine is offered. In the USA and the Middle East the vehicle's badging will remain as previous models.

Underlining Land Rover's commitment to power with sustainability, the 5-litre V8 petrol engine is replaced with the highly efficient 3.0 V6 S/C and fuel-stretching Intelligent Stop-Start technology is introduced on all petrol and diesel engines in a number of key markets. All models are equipped with an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission.
The new V6 generates 340PS and torque of 450Nm to deliver acceleration from 0-6mph in 7.7 seconds and a top speed 121mph. Thanks to the new unit's enhanced efficiency and the fitting of Intelligent Stop-Start, the 2014 Discovery with this engine produces just 269g/km of CO2.
In markets where diesel is popular, the 2014 Discovery will be available with two 'carry-over' 3-litre engines - the 211PS 3.0 TDV6 and the class-leading 256PS 3.0 SDV6 - with CO2 emissions reduced to 207g/km and 213g/km, and fuel consumption improved to 36.2mpg (combined cycle) and 35.3mpg for the SDV6.
New optional single-speed transfer box
For 2014 models, buyers will be offered a choice of two four-wheel drive systems with the new single-speed transfer box or the carry-over twin-speed transfer box which offers high and low range for the most demanding off-road conditions.
The single-speed transfer box acknowledges that some customers do not need to fully exploit the Discovery's off-road capabilities. Mechanically controlled, it weighs 18kg less than the two-speed box, features a Torsen differential and provides a 42/58 percent front-rear torque split.
New driver aids and premium audio
The new range of driver assistance, comfort and safety features for the 2014 Discovery include: Wade Sensing (a technology unique to Land Rover), Blind Spot Monitoring, Closing Vehicle Sensing, Reverse Traffic Detection and T-junction Cameras.
To align the 2014 Discovery with other Range Rover vehicles, it will be available with Meridian premium audio. The standard system features 8 speakers and 380 Watts of power, while the Meridian Surround system produces an impressive 825 Watts output and features 17 speakers FF 4.4 V8 Soooo looking forward to this bad boy
