England 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Sumatra Black
Advice welcomed regarding recent purchase!

I have sent this email to the dealer from where I purchased my 2007 3.6 TDV8, which has just covered 80k miles.

I bought the car in good faith, with a 3 month parts and labour warranty knowing that the driver seat bolster will have to be replaced/repaired.

Yesterday I had a small service and inspection carried out, the rest of the story is detailed in the email below:

Good morning M***

I am contacting with regard to the Range Rover Sport which I purchased from you on 24/08/2013.

I have had a small engine service (engine oil and filter change) carried out yesterday by a local land rover specialist, namely S** Land Rover Specialist, based near B**** in Suffolk.

Whilst the car was in the workshop and to give me peace of mind, I also had the engineer carry out an inspection to include a detailed mechanical report, and a full engine diagnostic check to establish if there were any faults with the vehicle.

He reported that generally the car is in a good condition, however he found that there is significant play found in both the front and rear anti-roll bar bushes on the chassis, and that the air flow reading was low on the left bank of the engine.

I obviously have concerns regarding both finds.

1. With regard to the anti-roll bush issue, I have checked through the service history supplied with the vehicle to find that on the last service invoice detailing 'B' full service and inspection (carried out by LRR Service Centre in London) actually highlights both front and rear bushes as an advisory!

2. The issue with the air flow reading low on the left bank, has been explained to me as either something as 'simple as a kinked hose' or 'a left bank turbo fault' and that further diagnostic work would be required to fault find and rectify the problem.

It has been concluded that both finds will not have manifested in the last 657 miles covered by me, and that I have inherited the faults.

I fully understand that you did not carry out a pre-sale service or a diagnostic check on the vehicle as the car had only covered 4,351 miles since its last service, however I bought the car from you in good faith, and in hindsight you should have been responsible for carrying out a full inspection on the car prior to sale.

I am obliged to now give you the opportunity to respond to my concerns and hopefully rectify both faults with the minimum of delay.

The seat repair is a separate issue, and I am still awaiting your reply regarding timescale for the repair process as outlined in my last email to you.

Kind regards

etc......

Have I done enough to get my point across without sounding aggressive or being too pushy?

What are my chances of getting the work carried out amicably? MY2007 RRS TDV8 Black - tinted glass - side steps- stormer grille - 20" diamond cut alloys - alpaca leather - TV/DVD pack - some blingy chrome bits & bob's

Problems such as this are & can be a minefield - if there is a finance agreement I believe you may have a good case. Your statement / request seems more than reasonable & to the point. I don't see nothing aggressive or threatening in your request.

Thanks peachy Thumbs Up I hope it can be sorted without too much hassle, had the oil change been carried any later, the issues would not have been spotted, and the 3 month warranty period would have expired leaving me no where to turn Big Cry Buyer beware Shocked MY2007 RRS TDV8 Black - tinted glass - side steps- stormer grille - 20" diamond cut alloys - alpaca leather - TV/DVD pack - some blingy chrome bits & bob's

How many days should I leave it before taking it further? Should I expect a reply within 7 days? Do you think it is OK to keep driving the car? What is your ultimate goal?

Are you just looking for the faults to be rectified under the 3 month warranty? If so then I would have thought the garage would have been more than happy to oblige and a standard warranty claim should commence.

If the items are not covered by the warranty then I think you'll be hard pushed to get anything from the garage. 2011 Evoque Si4 Dynamic plus lux

I believe the standard is 28 days with most items but a car may be different - if it was me I would be on the phone asking for an answer 1 way or the other Evil or Very Mad be polite but assertive. Again if you have a finance agreement " was the goods fit for purpose" - if it was a cash sale then I really don't know where you stand Big Cry

Thanks for the advice guys, the dealer beat me to it and phoned me 15 minutes ago, and he is happy to have a look at the car regarding my findings. I am to take it over first thing on Monday morning and I am to leave it with him for a few days to give him time to get it sorted. Result! Thumbs Up

I will still have it looked at again by the engineer who found the faults to see if it has a clean bill of health. Very Happy MY2007 RRS TDV8 Black - tinted glass - side steps- stormer grille - 20" diamond cut alloys - alpaca leather - TV/DVD pack - some blingy chrome bits & bob's
