I think we all pay for the use of a courtesy car, the cost is hidden in the hourly labour rate! MY2007 RRS TDV8 Black - tinted glass - side steps- stormer grille - 20" diamond cut alloys - alpaca leather - TV/DVD pack - some blingy chrome bits & bob's |

Exactly. If they were struggling so badly they wouldn't have survived the last couple of years when other businesses were going to the wall. The thought that there is no profit in car sales is laughable - plenty of car sales places making money just from sales as they don't have any of the servicing and parts income to fall back on. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

The perception that there is £5000 margin in a vehicle is eye opening. New cars make a loss in general, used cars make profit, but the average is hugely less than you would imagine. Service departments, finance, finance products, and add ons such as Supaguard are where the profits are made. Source: 20 years experience, and it's the family business. |

Usually more, certainly in Land Rovers. Everyone i have traded they add plus 5k on the window price. In fact i got good and predicting the trade in price they would offer, get an average or the book price and take off 6k..i think there was even a topic on here some years ago. I asked the sales person, who i got on with and he broke it down as i listed...actually sometimes with more in. as for new cars being sold as a loss...thats not right - i know there is at least 25% in them to covera range of things, if not more. That doesnt mean 20% off is realistic, it does mean there are some serious profit numbers in there even if its 5K per new car (still referencing lr's) profit then * volume, you are getting some good numbers. its worrying to hear that a family business might not be able to make those numbers, but then thats how these big groups survive very well. There is all the other routes of course and the VAT stuff But then car sales men will always play a sob story Mike 2014 Facelift Discovery Last edited by mse on Sat Sep 21 2013 10:07am.
