I bought mine with over 100k on it, its on 115k now and its tight as a drum.

I'd rather have a fully documented and cared for car over 100k than a rough sub 100k car.

I don't understand why so many people think 100k is some kind of magical mark where a car (any car for that matter) will explode and die. Current: 06 RR Sport HSE TDV6, Bonatti grey, black leather. Defender 90 pick up. Vito 110cdi

Previous: Mercedes CLS, BMW 330cd M sport, Nissan 200sx, Impreza STi, EP3 Civic Type R

^^ I agree about the 100k mark, it's ingrained into the British psyche. When I was visiting a friend in Oz he said mileage was so much less of an issue there than here, maybe because they use KM and the 100k mark is reached much earlier, or because it's such a big country, I don't know.

As for Land Rover service history, it seems that that doesn't count for a lot! Either stopping your engine going bang or getting help fixing it if it does! Big Cry

I guess historically it was a rare car that would last to 100k miles, especially if it was a British marque. That coupled with the UK being quite a small country meant that 100k would seem to be a big number. Our climate doesn't help either - older cars weren't adequately rust proofed so they rotted in our damp weather.

I also wonder if the company car culture, changing them every 2 or 3 years with no more than 60k miles on them drove a mindset that cars much older than that weren't desirable.

A friend once spent 6 months in the US on a long road trip holiday. Bought a second hand Ford Mustang (not one of the nice ones but a late-80s/early 90s one), drove it for 20k miles in 6 months and sold it for the same money he paid for it. That sort of additional mileage just wasn't seen as an issue compared to the overall condition of the car. In the UK that sort of trip would have cost him thousands in depreciation. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

If you're looking at older 2.7TDV6 then make sure the belts have been changed. It's at 105k miles or 7 years, whichever is sooner.

Also, look at the topics relating to failures of a pump housing (or is it a tensioner mount, can't remember) on 2.7s. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
