EU proposing 70mph limit on new cars

http://recombu.com/cars/articles/news/eu-t...l-new-cars

Not that it will make much difference now as most of the time I can't go over 50 due all the speed limit signs, the state of the roads and congestion Rolling Eyes Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Does this finally make us a fully fledged communist country ? Where every single detail of our lives is dictated to us, like it or not.
For a so called democracy we have the worst possible laws and restrictions going, is it any wonder that more middle to upper class British people are leaving this country than there are economic migrants coming in... Country has absolutely gone right down the pan!!

Sorry - I seem to be turning into Victor Meldrew Big Cry

I could of posted free school meals for kids story but not sure it's relevant on here as most of us have sold the kids or used their inheritance to buy our rrs Laughing

Anyway iirc the limit in Portugal is 80 on motorways and then there's the autobahn in Germany too so 70 seems unlikely - new porsche restricted to 70 being overtaken by 3 year old punto will cause outrage Whistle Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

I doubt it'll ever happen. It might spur discussion of general road safety, however, which would be a good thing. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

For example, making this sort of system mandatory might be a start: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pl1UMfxa_r4 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Yes, Volvo have had some teething troubles with the crash avoidance technology. But even airbags started out somewhere - one day crash avoidance systems will be as commonplace as airbags. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Speed doesnt kill...but people are obsessed by limiting it, thinking it does.

The germans (and you have to love them for it) would never let anything kill the autobahn...people (europe) has tried.

70mph is low, most of europe is higher im sure (desperately trying to convert 130kph to mph in my head)

Any such limit needs to be squashed and such control needs to really start to be ended for the good of freedom. Mike

The company I work for has offices in Germany and frequently staff visit London and can't believe that we follow all of the bull that the EU set. I've commented before that it's Germany who set the guidelines and their reply is simply "yes, but we don't follow them!"

I do like the germans for that, we should be more like them (or france) when it comes to europe...do what we like and what we think.

That said - the UK politicians can be just as life restricting. Mike
