newbe here

hi im shadrack!, just joined to find a few things out, long time bmw owner so have no idea, had various x5s and currently got an m3 cab.

looking to buy a range rover sport for winter 05-08, i have driven a v6 (my brother has a disco 3) and found it a little slow, so wondering weather to buy a 4.2sc or a tdv8, i know the tdv8 is probly the one to have but i only do 5k max a year in it as i have another car and van, and i can find what seem like low milage well spec'd SC's for 4-5k cheaper than equiv tdv8 and cant help but think thats alot of petrol!!

questions are:

the tdv8 is a cam chain so no 105k belt service?

what would i get average mpg ish from a SC (and before everyone does the but you dont get a SC for economy i have an m3 and despite driving it well keenly i still get 20mpg av which is ok and 30 on a run)

again average mpg for a tdv8

and any helpful hints or tips when looking.

thanks

I average 22 mpg in the TDV8 but I think it would be better on a long run.
wish my evo did the same MPG as your m3

hi, so 22 av on the tdv8, same as m3 then, yeh the m3 is unbelievable considering, well thats what it says on the screen, i get 230-280 miles per £70 fill whatever that is, but a tank usually lasts 3-5 weeks so thats why im thinking SC, also think the performance could be more what im used to, hopefully going to view a tdv8 and a SC on saturday, going to see the diesel first tho as i have a feeling if i go in the SC first i wont view a diesel! i would maybe entertain a v6 but i cant see the point tbh, my x5 was 231bhp and i thought it was slow so the 190 of the v6 is probly not going to light me up, however i may keep the m3 yet and p/x the 318ci instead.

TDV8 with a re-map will get you there in plenty of time mate.

That's an easy 1 Whistle Supercharged all day long - 14 mpg urban at the moment using Shell V Nitro + - if you can find a low mileage RRS even better Thumbs Up Test drive both the DIESEL & then the real V8 Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter then decide. If fuel price is not a factor then I'd go for the Petrol - better spec as standard Very Happy
Good luck - by the way I am biased. 16MY Estoril Blue SVR.............

chears peachy, what are the SC like for power compared to things like m3? if you get 14 mpg urban as long as it will do towards the 20 i wont really notice much to the m3, its only for weekends really and i suddenly realised i live in the sticks and for the last 6 years every winter we have had snow thats meant only the x5 was used for about a month and i currently have no 4x4 at all, ive always had a car or 2 and an x5

395bhp that's alway been enough for me - the RRS is a pleasure to drive - I've got the itch a few times over the summer to look for something else. In the end I can't find nothing ( in my price range ) that looks or works like the Sport.
I only do 5k a year so fuel was never a factor when choosing the preferred model but as soon as I opened the door on the car the interior was different and then the test drive sold it for me. Thumbs Up
Good luck. 16MY Estoril Blue SVR.............

thats why i dont want to drive a SC first!! ive only done 1800 miles in the m3 in 6 month so milage no issue, i wanted an rs4 but figured a rrs sc may do everything including lugging around child items more easily

United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Cairns Blue

Had a B7 RS4 Avant, and still have my B5. I owned my modded Sport at the same time and weapon of choice was always the Sport when it was on the drive.
Chipped TDV8 is @335 bhp but serious torque ( double the bhp figure) and a very nice place to be for local spirited drive or 1350 mile trek to South of France five up.
A remapped V6 is passable but if your driving an M3, then vastly underpowered. If fuel isn't an issue, go for a SC, if you want a little bit of economy, and I use the word loosely, then go TDV8 to keep your interest alive. Thumbs Up 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈
Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱
Lots of other toys in the cupboard...😜

Welcome Shadrack, - I agree with Peachy. If you only do 5000 miles per year SC is the one. I had the same considerations as you and haven't regretted the SC for one minute. I do 6000 annually, three quarters of which is motorway and average 18.6mpg overall. About 14mpg around town as Peachy says.

Great car, enjoy whatever you get Thumbs Up Carl

Welcome Shadrack

I would just go straight for the 4.2 Supercharged great power & after coming from a 410Bhp RS focus I'm pleasantly surprised how well it pulls & as your only doing low miles you won't notice what it does to the gallon Whistle 2016 SVR
