Thinking of a RRS but not sure of a TDV6 or TDV8

Hi Folks

I know a lot of people put up threads about buying a a rrs, but i havent yet seen a thread thats explains anyhng clearly. Too be quite honest i think im starting to get a bit put off one as there is soo many horror stories, hehehe.

I currently drive a Jaguar XJ6 2.7 TDV6 Sovereign. This does not give good mpg around town but on the motorway it does give 45mpg. I got 698 miles out of a full tank and was a clean drive to Scotland and back, alll motorway.

I wanted to try and get a true justification on the mpg if possible as there are soo many versions and experiences from lots of people.

Also do they really go baad??? My Jaguar was good until my Mrs drove a curb at 70mph on the motorway and since then its not been right.

Can anyone help please as i am new to the rrs!!!!!

Many Thanks.

I was thinking of getting a rrs before the 23rd march 2006 to keep the road tax down and that is within my budget. Have you ever owned one these ones??

Do you also know what mpg you would on the motorway??

Hi, I've got a 2.7 tdv6. Most people on the forum will tell you to get a tdv8, but I love mine. For me, the range rover is a car to be driven lazily - I don't ever feel the need for more power. I love it. I do short journeys mostly, with a few 50-60 miles, and have averaged around 28mpg over the last 5-600 miles.

I have a 2005 2.7TDV6 - specifically for the lower road tax (and was in my budget when I was buying) - I consistently average just under 28 mpg, but thats half city, and half motorway.

I don't feel it's underpowered because when I do want to power out/overtake etc, I bung it into sport mode and it zooms by! Cool RRS HSE TDV6 Autobiography

More problems? No. Different problems? Yes. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

3.0 TDV6 v's TDV8 I'd still pick the V8

SDV6 v's TDV8 would be the opposite result... Wink RRS gone

I also came directly from a 2.7 Jaguar, although mine was an XF. It used to average mid 30s but on a run could get 40+mpg
As for land rovers, I have had 2 TDV6 (disco 3s though) and now have a TDV8 RRS. Both discos were remapped autos and averaged between 27-30 depending on use. My standard TDV8 is currently doing around 24-27 mpg but goes equally as well if not better than the remapped V6s and i am planning a remap on this too in the very near future Mr. Green

Both my D3s responded really well to remaps and i would recommend a remap especially if you get the v6 (Makes them much more responsive and as a bonus also increased mpg by an average of 2mpg!). My tdv6 certainly wasn't underpowered and could certainly get up and go when asked Shocked

I havn't had a 3.0 sdv6 yet but am told they are almost as quick as the tdv8 but with better MPG so if budget isn't so much of an issue then this may be the way to go, also you would get the plusher interior of the facelift model with the 3.0

Whatever you get i am sure you wont be disapointed. I have never had any serious problems with any of mine (probably covered over 250k miles in them!) don't expect to get anywhere near the mpg of the Jag but considering the weight and size of the car i don't think they are too bad. Also if you go 06 or newer the RFL will be almost double that of the Jag (but that works out less than a fiver a week) so its not the end of the world

Good luck Thumbs Up
Paul

The 3.0 sdv6 is not close in the real world IE 50-70 overtake etc. 3.0 not much better on fuel in real world as you have your foot so much more buried the the V8. if load of town stop start chug-a-bug stuff yes the 3.0 sdv6 will return 29 ish and 31 on a run ( again real world not what the lie-o-meter-says)

The 3.6 TDV8 is great when mapped correctly had 30K on my Sport never missed a beat and still 25 ish MPG mixed mainly hi speed motorway. , 4.4 is mad 50-70 almost same as 5.0 SC.

if you do 70MPH 3.0 is about 10% better on fuel put both at 90 very similar.

But who buys a RR or RRS for 2-3 mpg lol 2014 5.0SC AB

Gone 5.0 SC

You also have to look at the cost of buying them.

You could have two 2.7 rrs instead of one 3.0 rrs or a 2.7 rrs for plodding round in (they are a 4x4 remember for a v8 sports car) then have another little sports car with the change. Downside is too yearly running costs but less miles in a rrs means less change of failure Rolling with laughter

I've still not decided yet tho....
