Our hotel did it for me although it was a little more, the fact they did everything the extra 10 euros was worth it Mike

Booked up the ferry there, hotels, and train back last night. Do I really want to trust the 2006 sat nav around Holland/Germany/Belgium/France, or should I take our more upto date tom tom?

Route will be Liverpool to Hull, overnight Ferry to Rotterdam, then Sennelager and stay over night, Nurburgring and stay over night, Bruges for a few hours on the way to Calais, Eurotunnel to Folkstoke, then Crawley and stay over night, then back to Liverpool.

Think it was around 1250miles plus a few for getting lost Laughing

Given that I'm not planning on visiting any major Germany cities it's probably not worth me getting one of those badges?

How can I switch my headlight aim?

Anyone care to offer any touristy info that's worth seeing along this route? Smile

Found this in an old thread Thumbs Up

Quote:
Look behind the main headlight cluster, (without removing the grill ) you will see a large black disc, like a coffee jar lid.
give it a small half turn to remove.
inside the cluster you will see a small silver box with the electric warning sign on it., same as shown in book. To the right of this is a small black lever which you flip down for continental driving., do same on other side.
Literally takes seconds.

You will probably be fine with the green badge then...you will be taking all your docs anyway so you could get one.

Headlight beam adjusters (for your car) are little leavers on the back of the lights...all you need to do is remove the unit and flip the leaver.

The manual has a good guide - i saw somewhere, someone put some string on it and could then make the switch without removing the unit.

There are some good posts on here that show removing the grill and lights.

Make sure you have all your Europe travel stuff and enjoy the autobahns - makes our roads look like African tracks...just remember keep in lane 1 unless overtaking and ALWAYS check your mirrors people shift - at 120mph it felt sometimes we werent moving!!

Finally over a certain speed any crash is 50/50 your fault. (i assume you have checked your insurance covers you in Europe) Mike

Ahh lovely stuff, I'll have a look at the headlights this weekend and try switching them over to make sure I know what I am doing when I get over to Rotterdam.

I've double checked the insurance and I'm covered which is good news. Not planning on doing any silly speeds on the Autobhan's tbh, won't be a problem driving in lane 1 as I'm the number 1 fan in the middle lane hogger bashing brigade Laughing

Not sure wether to switch the 22's back to the 19's for the trip or not Confused Current: 06 RR Sport HSE TDV6, Bonatti grey, black leather. Defender 90 pick up. Vito 110cdi

I thought that was me..im always moaning at it.

We didnt consistently do the really high speeds, but we did sit at 100mph most of the way - we were driving across Germany - there are sections with speed limits and you do slow down (we did)...germans approach to speed changes seem to be drive up to the limit at the current speed, apply the anchors as hard as possible to get you to the new speed and continue at that speed.

Tyre wise, whatever your comfortable with - but think about ease of replacement. Mike

Going tomorrow Smile

Headlight adjusters seem to be a piece of cake to change, I tried it and changed it back to the lever up for UK driving, now I'm not sure if i've moved the lever to far as the left hand side aim seems to point more towards the floor, is it possible to move the lever to far up?

I've thrown my spare 22inch wheel and tyre in the boot and removed the spare from under the car (before some european thief potentially does it for me)

Got a GB sticker for the rear of the car just to be safe, washed it last night and put plenty of sealent on the wheels so the dust will drop off on the next wash. Double checking the oil and coolant tonight, as well as topping up the washer fluid.

Can anyone recommend any sights to see in Amsterdam and Bruges? Bear in mind I'll be with the mrs Laughing Current: 06 RR Sport HSE TDV6, Bonatti grey, black leather. Defender 90 pick up. Vito 110cdi

Don't think you can move the headlight adjuster lever too far up or down. Don't use too much force on it - you would have noticed how flimsy it feels.

Did you just wind the spare wheel winch up without a wheel? Have read somewhere on the forum that this can mess up the winch cable up and the whole winch then needs to be opened up to sort out or replaced. Just use the RLD spare protector and stop worrying too much about it being nicked. You will then have more boot space also Thumbs Up

I just returned from Europe last weekend. Covered 2300 miles in 8 days on all sorts of roads and under all sorts of conditions (torrential rain, sleet, dust). I never wash my cars myself as I know I can't do it properly Laughing Certainly never use any sealant/protection. Just took it to a reputable manual car wash and it still came out as clean as new, inside out, for a princely sum of £17. I have before and after pictures of one of the wheels somewhere. Pretty clean, to my satisfaction at least.

Bruges is really nice. Just walk around the town centre and admire the buildings and shops.

Damrak/Dam Square in Amsterdam is the main one. Canal cruise is a must. Walk around Prinsengracht. Vondelpark. Begijnhof. The NEMO Science Museum is good especially for kids.

Have a great trip. Probably the best car for long trips. I drove it for 12-13 hours on some days and it didn't tire me at all Thumbs Up

Thanks chaps Smile

Thankfully no kids yet! I heard there was a sex museum in Amsterdam which sounds much more up our street Laughing

I'd put the 22 under the car but I'm worried about damaging the face of the wheel and if it would even fit Shocked

Looking forward to spending some time driving it as I hardly use the RRS any more, this'll be the longest trip I've done in any car as well. Current: 06 RR Sport HSE TDV6, Bonatti grey, black leather. Defender 90 pick up. Vito 110cdi
