2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Bonatti Grey

Saeed I will look up that towel. Whats the benefit of using a towel over the chamois leather?? I have never used a towel as always used the chamois.

The problem I find with the chamois is that I can never seem to finish without any water marks and takes a long time when the vehicle is soaking wet and creates quite a few water marks on the glass so when I chamois I usually end up polishing and using glass cleaner which takes up more time.

Do you just towel off and then leave it?

Agree with Ady, products have moved on heaps, I use a quality compound, to remove paints swirls, water marks and any light abrasions, then a quality polish, then a show gloss, then a wax.
As mine is done by machine it's easy anyway.
But chamois causes damage to paint, no one teaches drying like that now.
A good plush thick towel, get 3 you'll be amazed at how much easier it is than a chamois. You'll never look back.
Thumbs Up

Its less likely with a towel to pick up any left over dirt and rub into your lovely clean paint work. Also the towel over the chamois involves less rubbing as its more absorbent. Also the added advantage of any good waxed paint surface is most of the water beads off so less to dry from the outset.

I normally twice a year wash the car, clay bar if needed, polish, wax. The rest of the year wash and dry like you would with a chamois and job done on the paint work. The rabbit hole goes very deep when your looking into cleaning a car just need to set your own limits on how far you go Time wise or financially.

You will find different products for every step of the cleaning to gleaming stage. Different recommendations from different people best policy I find is take a little from every where and trial and error on it from there you can establish what works for you.

But what ever you do always always use either the two bucket wash or garry dean wash technique.

Stumbled across this purely by luck. Basically throw about 5-6 micro fiber clothes into your car shampoo bucket, every time you washed say a panel or two and the cloth gets dirty put it to one side and grab a fresh one. This I find eliminates the need for the second bucket to rinse the mitt or other wash medium. Keeps the risk transferring or picking up dirt to other panels and lower risk of creating damage to paint work.

Further more there is no grit guards needed as you never put a dirty cloth back in your clean bucket. I'm sure there are many other names for this method I just know it as garry dean wash technique. Below is the youtube link to the proper explaination of it.

I use many of the Gtechniq products on my motors and find them easy to use, they also provide many video's on how to use their products which is very useful.

Not a day wasted by any means Wink
RRS is looking very Cool

As has been said, a drying towel is the way forward, many offerings out there. I use a couple of these.

As Ady says, GTechniq do some cracking products, some of which are a doddle to use and give great results (like C2v3) Thumbs Up ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Looks great! This is my second favourite colour for the sport! Will be doing the same tomorrow if it's nice weather (unlikely I know!)

Will agree with having a good towel.

I use a Meguires one on my Disco3, great for drying quickly and doesn't mark the paintwork. ( that's what off roading is for.. Laughing )

Very nice colour, not totally sure on the wheels, they are different to the usual Overfinch or Khans which is good but imo they don't seem to suit the car properly. Otherwise, very nice. Thumbs Up

England 2010 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Zermatt Silver

Just popped over from Freel2 having a nosey after we were hit by spammers and saw this thread.

I have used Werkstat Acrylic Prime, Jett and Glos on my car, very very easy to use and superb results, well worth getting and trying them.
I will get myself some large towels too, always used a chamois but after reading this thread Shocked

Polished Bliss have some good info on the products, tried to get a group buy from them but they declined, it's not cheap at £17 for 500ml but it says use sparingly and it does last a long time.

I wont post a pic of a FL2 on here, might not go down well Laughing

Only ever use microfiber towels. Chamois leather carries grit and dirt and scratches the car. Start with power rinse, then snow foam, then power rinse, then wash with sheepskin mitt and shampoo, them rinse and dry with microfibre towel. Then I use Maguirs glaze, followed by Maguirs Polish, followed by Maguirs carnauba wax. These products are very easy to put on and take off and last. In between polishes I use Maguirs Ultimate Detailer which protects and really throws off water. The product is put on wet and taken off straight away, so no hard buffing. The end result is a showroom finish. I can detail the sport from start to finish in around 5 hours. Do this every three months. In between its power wash, snow foam, wash and Ultimate Detailer. Problem then is I hate taking it out in the wet!! Sad or what?
