Spare Wheel 50Mph 19"

I know its been covered before but why does the spare have s 50mph sticker on it ?

Its a 19" Black wheel that weighs a lot so its very solid but it can only support 50 Mph ?

I have 20" wheels and its a 2010 3.0. 50mph really ?

I wonder if I peel the sticker off will it become a 90 mph wheel !!

I think it's the tyre that limits the speed, not the wheel. Space saver spares are much narrower than the standard tyre so they carry a higher specific loading. Because they're narrower they effectively run a much deeper sidewall so one get's greater tyre flex at speed. They also use a different rubber compound so that they closely match the full size's grip characteristics. Running different tyres on an axle is generally considered to be "a bad thing" so using a much smaller tyre with different characteristics is definitely "a bad thing". Running said tyre at high speed is, well, you get the picture.

The alternative is to fit a full size spare. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I also wondered why this was. I have a 19" spare (D3 HSE wheel in black) with a brand new pirelli scorpion zero on it, and although it is slightly smaller than the 275/40/20s on the car it isnt by much Neutral . I could understand it for the skinny spacesaver type wheels

There is really no reason why it is limited.

It's a standard wheel with a standard tyre. '08 RRS TDV8

The problem is if it doesn't match the rest of the wheels on the vehicle it will affect braking and handling so speed is restricted Confused

If you match your spare to the rest then no problem Bow down Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

If it's a standard 19 inch wheel with a 255/50 tyre fitted then it's less of an issue than if it's a proper space saver spare. But running a 255/50 on one corner whilst running 275/40 on the others is always going to give you interesting dynamic issues especially under braking. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I guess you can do whatever speed you feel safe doing in the conditions at the time but in the event of an accident first thing investigator will check is speed rating on wheels and if you exceeded it things could get difficult for you with Police and insurance Confused Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW
